Delta Electronics Automotive Americas Inc. Power Electronics Engineer in Plymouth, Michigan

Develop Traction Inverter Power Stage:

  • Develop new circuits and power conversion topologies for internal concept projects and production projects by surveying technical papers and integrating with practical implementations.
  • Circuit analysis and simulation by using PSIM, MATLAB/Simulink, LTSPICE, Saber.
  • Design and review the schematic and PCB layout by Altium
  • Collaborate closely with the mechanical and software team to develop the traction inverter system.
  • Bulk capacitor design, simulation (LTSPICE/Ansys-Q3D) and lifetime estimation.
  • Develop and execute test plans to ensure components and system level performance.
  • Hands-on hardware bring-up, characterization, troubleshooting, and failure analysis.
  • Conduct bench test and perform the system level inverter characterization (Double pulse test, short circuit test to verify the power module and gate driver performance, system level test with RL load/ALE over temperature and voltage extremes).

Advanced technology development:

  • Interface with component suppliers on component selection and drive future generation component development through roadmap reviews and discussions, focusing on GDIC, power supply, and bulk capacitors to meet the NA market trends.
  • Support internal power module design.
  • Conduct advanced components test plan and bench testing on components and subsystems to verify the high-voltage and low-voltage performance.
  • Coordinate component failure analysis with supplier, and communicate issues clearly and effectively between the supplier and global design teams.

Support customer projects:

  • Conduct worst case circuit analysis (WCCA) by using MathCAD on components and subsystems, which includes analytically considering in great detail all the component tolerances.
  • Conduct demo analysis (DDA) to verify and characterize the key circuits.
  • Develop circuit models for components and circuits, power module junction temperature evaluation, and meet the customer requirements.
  • Perform the root cause analysis for the product warranty return, support on quality issue with suppliers. Prepare fishbone diagrams and 5-phase report for the field return parts.
  • Communicate with OEMs on new RFI proposal for the power stage, conduct technical engagements.
  • Be familiar with and follow the automotive standard for the traction inverter design (IEC60662, IEC62477, AQD324, ISO26262...).
