BAE Systems Hardware Intern, Summer 2026 in Plymouth, Massachusetts

Job Description

The Electronic Systems Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (UUV) Team is seeking candidates for Hardware Engineering (Electrical and Mechanical) summer internships supporting all aspects of the engineering development and manufacturing lifecycle. At BAE Systems, we deliver a full range of products and services for air, land and naval forces, as well as advanced electronics, security, information technology solutions and customer support services.

Opportunities exist supporting a variety of efforts in engineering development, integration, test and transition to production efforts on complex electronic and mechanical systems.

Roles and Responsibilities may include:

Provide engineering support to the design, development and selection of basic hardware components for the underwater domain (power systems, navigation systems, hull structures) utilizing fundamental engineering principles, theories and techniques.

Obtain working knowledge of company tools. Perform analyses and compile data for investigation by senior engineering personnel.

Support the fabrication and testing of prototype or deliverable hardware. Document and present results.

Support assemblers, technicians and inspectors for manufacturing issues on new and existing products.

Develop or improve test fixtures, tooling, manufacturing processes and other procedures for new and existing product builds to reduce defects and improve yields.

Participate in and document corrective action requests using 9 Step problem solving methodology.

Posses laboratory experience with electronic testing and mechanical assembly and be able to support test events

Ability to create and present analysis results to internal team members

Other duties and responsibilities as required.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

Pursuing a BS Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)

Eligible for DOD Security Clearance.

MUST be able to relocate to Plymouth, MA area

MUST have reliable transportation to and from assigned work site(s) that include the Southern NH Region

MUST be able to work full 40-hour work week (Exceptions made for academics with advance notice)

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

Ability to research and apply electrical/mechanical engineering principles and theories to solve engineering problems focus on UUV and maritime challenges.

Motivated self-starter with leadership skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Excellent problem solving skills, judgment, and analytical capability.

Ability to close on discrete tasking in a timely manner.

Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.

Mechanical Experience in SolidWorks, Creo, PLM, AutoCAD, ANSYS, NX, or MATLAB is a plus.

Electrical Experience in VHDL, Verilog, System Verilog, Cadence, HFSS, MATLAB or LabVIEW is a plus.

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $49592 - $68993

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.

Temporary employees generally are not eligible for BAE Systems benefits, but can elect to participate in the 401(k) savings plan. Temporary employees working 20 hours per week are eligible for medical benefits, the employee assistance program, and business travel accident insurance.
