First Student Diesel Technician in PLYMOUTH, Massachusetts

Diesel Technician – Whitman, MA (Serving South Shore School Districts)

First Student is now hiring a Diesel Technician for our shop serving Whitman, Abington, Duxbury Academy, Norwell, Weymouth, Holbrook & Rockland in Whitman, MA!

Hours/Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM (Full-Time Day Shift)

Pay Details: Dependent on experience and ASE certification progression

Hourly Rate: $38.00 – $42.00 per hour (NOT flat rate)

  • Front-loaded pay structure: Enter at the higher end of the range based on your current experience and qualifications

  • Continuation at top pay is contingent upon obtaining S1–S6 School Bus ASE Certifications within 12 months (company-paid)

  • Earn up to $2.00/hour additional through ASE certifications

  • Monday–Friday day shift with consistent, year-round work (no weekends required)

About the Diesel Technician Position

As a Diesel Technician with First Student, you will help maintain and repair school buses to ensure safety and reliability.

Diesel Technician key responsibilities include:

  • Ensure vehicles are maintained and safe for our passengers

  • Diagnose and perform all phases of vehicle maintenance including brake systems, engine tune-ups, suspensions, drivetrains, and transmissions

  • Perform preventive maintenance (PMs), safety inspections, and annual inspections

  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems

  • Complete work orders accurately and maintain documentation

  • Assist with mobile emergency repair services when needed

Diesel Technician Qualifications

  • At least 5+ years of diesel, automotive, or fleet maintenance experience (or equivalent technical training)

  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills

  • Valid driver’s license required

  • CDL Class B (or ability to obtain within 60 days – company paid)

  • Must possess a mechanic’s tool set

  • Willingness to participate in ASE certification program (training, testing, and pay increases provided)

  • Strong computer and documentation skills

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented shop environment

This position is safety-sensitive and subject to DOT drug testing.
