Role Overview:
Assisting in the stockrooms and running parts as needed.
Cleaning the shop and yard.
Basic automotive knowledge is preferred.
Perform and/or Assist other Mechanics with:
a. Oil changes / PMs. b. Tire repairs and replacement c. Brake repairs on cars and light trucks. d. Lights and minor electrical repairs e. Exhaust system repairs. f. Report issues to Working Leads or Shop Supervisors.Welding experience is welcomed.
Location:
This position is with INDOT's Plymouth Shop.
Pay Rate:
This position traditionally starts at an hourly rate of $18.00.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
Preform, under supervision, basic maintenance and repairs on equipment
Assisting other mechanics on their jobs
Keeping the shop clean and in an orderly manner
Preform oil changes and preventative maintenance
Repair and change tires
Change or repair lights on equipment
Pick up parts when required by supervisor
Inspect vehicles/equipment for damage
Attend appropriate training school, safety meetings, mechanic meetings or related meetings
Provide service and repair of vehicles and equipment on emergency basis

What You'll Need for Success:
You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:
High School Graduate or equivalent
Must possesses a valid driver’s license
Working knowledge of appropriate safety practices associated with repair and maintenance heavy equipment, vehicles and/or motorized equipment
Knowledge of heavy and light duty vehicle and equipment repair
Skill in operating hand & power tools related to repair & maintenance of vehicles & equipment
Ability to carry out oral and written instructions and to complete records and reports
Must have ability to read, write, and communicate clearly
Ability to follow directions and work as a part of a team
Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, dragging, stooping, standing and walking for long periods of time
Ability to carrying out basic functions on the computer
Ability to work in a multi-functional team
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana:
This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
