Histology Technologist
Job Description
The Histology Technologist is crucial in obtaining and preparing tissue specimens for microscopic examination. This role involves the processes of grossing, fixation, cutting, mounting, and staining tissue samples for dermatopathologist review.
Responsibilities
Accession, receive, and prepare tissue specimens.
Perform grossing and inking (if qualified).
Prepare media, chemicals, reagents, and solutions.
Process tissue through embedding, microtomy, staining, cryostat use, and freezing.
Label and prepare slides; perform quality control.
Examine slides under a microscope to detect abnormalities.
Maintain instruments, equipment, and work areas.
Log, file, track, and store specimens and slides.
Maintain lab supply inventory and documentation (QA/QC logs).
Adhere to compliance and training protocols.
Essential Skills
Proficiency in histology techniques and use of microtomes.
Knowledge of immunohistochemistry procedures.
Certification as HT (ASCP) or eligibility to sit for the exam, with certification required within one year.
Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience preferred.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Associate’s degree is required.
Completion of a NAACLS-accredited histology program.
CLIA requirements: 60 semester hours with specific coursework and lab training.
Work Environment
This is a new, state-of-the-art pathology lab offering great technological resources. Opportunities for learning and advancement are available. Shift duration is 8 hours. 1st, 2nd and 3rd shift are all available due to the lab and business expansion.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Pleasant Prairie, WI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $33.00 - $45.00/hr.
