Job Title: General Utility Worker

Job Description

The General Utility Worker supports multiple areas within a refrigerated food production facility, rotating between sanitation/pack-off, packing, palletizing, and box making. This role helps keep production running smoothly by maintaining clean equipment, preparing and packaging finished goods, and ensuring accurate labeling and documentation while handling materials up to 50 pounds throughout a 10-hour shift.

Responsibilities

  • Rotate between sanitation/pack-off, packing, palletizing, and box making areas as production needs require.

  • Dispose of extra materials that will not be used in production in a safe and organized manner.

  • Break down and dispose of incoming packages and labels, ensuring proper handling and cleanliness.

  • Separate waste streams into trash, cardboard, and plastic to support facility recycling and waste management processes.

  • Spray machines and containers with disinfectant to maintain sanitation standards.

  • Assist with preparing machine start-ups and disassembling machines for sanitation procedures.

  • Place bags of finished goods into boxes accurately and efficiently.

  • Visually inspect finished goods for defects and remove nonconforming products from the line.

  • Complete necessary production and quality paperwork with accurate and legible information.

  • Visually inspect cases to ensure proper sealing and labeling before palletizing.

  • Operate a pallet jack to move finished pallets safely around the facility.

  • Assemble and disassemble machinery as needed to support sanitation activities.

  • Document all findings related to quality checks, equipment, and materials according to facility requirements.

  • Palletize finished boxes weighing up to 50 pounds, stacking them safely and securely.

  • Maintain a steady supply of boxes and labels for production lines to prevent downtime.

  • Verify that labeling matches the specification sheet and ensure boxes are free of damage before use.

  • Document the movement of finished and raw materials to maintain accurate inventory records.

  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and all safety and sanitation procedures at all times.

  • Work extended shifts, including frequent overtime, while maintaining productivity and attention to detail in a cold environment.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds continuously throughout a 10-hour shift.

  • Ability to read, write, and speak English to follow instructions, complete paperwork, and document findings.

  • At least 1 year of work history demonstrating reliability and consistency.

  • Comfort working in a refrigerated environment of approximately 30–40 degrees.

  • Capability to operate a pallet jack safely after training.

  • Attention to detail for visual inspection of finished goods, cases, labels, and boxes.

  • Ability to follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and sanitation procedures.

  • Willingness to work 50+ hours per week, including most Saturdays and daily overtime when needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in production, general production, or packaging environments.

  • Familiarity with basic machine start-up, disassembly, and reassembly for sanitation.

  • Comfort working with repetitive tasks while maintaining high quality standards.

  • Ability to document material movements and production information accurately.

Work Environment

This position is on 2nd shift, working Monday through Friday from approximately 3:45 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., with most Saturdays included. Employees typically work over 50 hours per week, with a maximum of 60 hours, and receive overtime pay for any hours worked beyond eight per shift. The role is based in a GMP food production environment where sausage patties and similar products are manufactured using processes comparable to standard meat patty production. The entire production floor is refrigerated, generally between 30 and 40 degrees, so employees work in a consistently cold environment. Team members wear an overcoat, gloves, hard hat, ear plugs, safety glasses, and knee-high non-slip rubber boots to meet safety and sanitation standards. The work involves standing, lifting, and moving materials throughout the shift, operating pallet jacks, and working around production machinery in a fast-paced, highly regulated setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Pleasant Prairie, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $17.00/hr.
