Duties Description This position is responsible for packing, transporting, and installing heavy, large, or fragile objects made from a variety of materials, including 2D and 3D artwork, taxidermy, sculpture, and furniture. All tasks must be carried out with a high level of care to ensure that no damage occurs during handling or installation. The role also requires knowledge of safe and secure installation practices in a gallery setting, including the use of security hangers, cable systems, and museum-quality techniques designed to prevent theft or damage. The selected candidate must adhere to all health and safety protocols related to handling potentially hazardous materials and be comfortable working on ladders, using tools and/or motorized equipment, and lifting up to 50 pounds. A valid driver’s license is required as the position does include travel within the region. Minimum Qualifications -Must be eligible for appointment to this title pursuant to civil service law-Ability to understand and carry out written and/or oral instructions-Physically able to perform the tasks of the position including, but not limited to, those in the Examples of Duties & Responsibilities-A demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with a variety of individuals-Valid driver’s license and the ability to be LENS cleared to operate state vehicles
Additional Comments This position is expected to support the Museum Preparator with the packing, transportation, and installation of objects loaned to campus for an exhibition opening in summer 2026. The Art Museum collects, studies, preserves, exhibits, interprets, and publishes original works of art. We are part of the School of Arts & Sciences which provides excellence in learning opportunities for all students at SUNY Plattsburgh through a core liberal arts education. We develop students who can think critically, have mastered their discipline, can communicate effectively, and are broadly educated. The work schedule is expected to be Monday-Friday, 8:00a.m – 4:00p.m. This temporary position is expected to begin early-May and end in late-June.Please include a complete application and contact information for three current professional references.
