Luminator is seeking a experienced Project engineer I for our Plano, TX headquarters site that will be responsible for leading the development, qualification, certification, and production release of aircraft LED lighting systems and electronic control systems for commercial and business aircraft.
The engineer serves as the primary technical interface between airframe OEM customers, internal engineering teams, manufacturing, suppliers, and certification organizations to ensure successful program execution from concept through production and entry into service.
This role includes ownership of technical schedule, product compliance, system performance, and engineering deliverables for interior and exterior aircraft lighting systems and associated control electronics. “Candidates must be located in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex and be legally authorized to work in the United States. At this time, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of employment visas.”
What You’ll Do:
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Program / Project Engineering
• Serve as the engineering focal for customer aircraft lighting programs.
• Lead engineering activities from concept, development, qualification, certification, and production
• Develop and maintain engineering schedules and technical deliverables
• Track technical risks, action items, and program issues
• Support customer program reviews and technical interchange meetings
• Coordinate cross-functional engineering teams:
• Electrical
• Mechanical
• Optical
• Software
• Certification
• Manufacturing
System Development Responsibilities
Lead development of aircraft lighting and control systems including:
Cabin LED lighting systems
Emergency lighting systems
Cockpit lighting
Exterior LED lighting
Logo lights
Power supplies and LED drivers
Dimming and network control systems
Define system architecture, interfaces, and requirements
Certification & Regulatory Compliance
Lead certification efforts in coordination with certification engineers and DERs/ODA
Support compliance to:
14 CFR Part 23 / 25 / 27 / 29
DO-160 Environmental Qualification
DO-178 Software
DO-254 Complex Electronic Hardware
ARP4754A System Development
ARP4761 Safety Assessment
Review and comment on certification documentation:
Certification plans
Requirements documents
Test plans and procedures
Compliance & Qualification reports
Safety analysis (FHA, FMEA, FTA)
Support certification testing and conformity inspections.
Qualification & Testing
Plan and support environmental qualification testing per DO-160:
Plan and support environmental qualification testing per DO-160:
Temperature and altitude
Vibration/shock/EMI/EMC/Power Input/Waterproofness/Dust
Support photometric and optical testing for lighting performance
Support system integration testing.
Review and comment on qualification test reports
Production Release & Sustaining Engineering
Support transition from development into production
Review and approve engineering changes
Support production issues, MRB, and root cause investigations
Work with manufacturing on production test requirements and acceptance testing
Support supplier technical issues and component obsolescence
Support field issues and airline/OEM service engineering requests
Experience
3–5 years of aerospace engineering experience
Experience with aircraft electrical or electronic systems
Experience leading engineering development projects
Familiarity with DO-160 environmental testing
Knowledge of aerospace certification processes
Ability to read electrical schematics, system diagrams, and engineering drawings
Experience working directly with customers and suppliers
Education
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with aircraft lighting systems.
Experience with LED drivers, power electronics, or lighting control systems.
Familiarity with:
• ARINC 429
• CAN bus
• PWM dimming
• RS-485 or Ethernet aircraft networks
Experience with DO-178 or DO-254 programs.
Experience supporting FAA certification projects
PMP or formal project engineering experience
Experience working with OEM aircraft manufacturers
