This Mechanical Engineer role focuses on designing manufacturable, reliable products using Creo in a fast-paced engineering services environment. You will collaborate closely with clients and cross-functional teams to translate requirements into robust designs, create virtual and physical prototypes, and ensure products meet performance, safety, and cost targets.
Responsibilities
Consult with clients to understand and clarify design requirements and product expectations.
Research end users and analyze how products will be used in various conditions and applications.
Develop initial design concepts by sketching ideas and creating visual renderings on paper or using computer tools.
Use computer-aided design software, primarily Creo, to create detailed virtual models of product designs and assemblies.
Create and refine physical prototypes to validate design concepts and performance.
Examine materials, components, and production costs to determine manufacturing requirements and feasibility.
Work with other specialists, including mechanical engineers and manufacturers, to evaluate whether design concepts meet functional needs at a reasonable cost.
Evaluate product safety, appearance, and function to determine the practicality and reliability of designs.
Perform tolerance analysis on assemblies to ensure proper fit, function, and manufacturability.
Incorporate coefficient of thermal expansion considerations into designs to maintain performance across temperature variations.
Design products to withstand shock and vibration in their intended operating environments.
Apply design-for-manufacturability principles and align designs with appropriate manufacturing processes.
Design products that meet detailed customer requirement lists and specifications.
Coordinate work with local and external teams to align design activities, resolve issues, and meet project deadlines.
Present designs and demonstrate prototypes to clients, clearly explaining design decisions and obtaining approvals.
Essential Skills
3–5 years of mechanical design experience with a strong focus on design for manufacturability.
Proficiency with Creo for 3D modeling and detailed mechanical design.
Solid understanding and practical application of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
Ability to perform tolerance analysis on assemblies to ensure functional and manufacturable designs.
Experience incorporating coefficient of thermal expansion into mechanical designs.
Ability to design products to withstand shock and vibration in real-world operating conditions.
Familiarity with a range of manufacturing processes and their implications for design.
Ability to design effectively to detailed customer requirements and specifications.
Strong teamwork skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with local and external teams.
Clear communication skills to interact with clients, present designs, and explain technical decisions.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Optics-related design experience is a plus.
Prior experience working within an engineering services environment is beneficial.
Experience working in fast-paced project settings with multiple stakeholders.
Ability to present and demonstrate prototypes confidently to clients.
Work Environment
This role is based on-site in a fast-paced engineering services office environment in Plano, TX. You will work closely with other engineers and specialists, using Creo and related engineering tools on a daily basis. The setting emphasizes rapid collaboration, quick iteration of designs and prototypes, and coordination with both local and external teams to meet demanding project timelines.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
