Director of Quality

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Director of Quality to lead a diverse team of engineers, technicians, inspectors, and administrative personnel. This role involves directing a staff of up to 50 people, hiring and training staff, and developing and enforcing quality systems to ensure compliance with consensus standards and customer requirements. The position requires monitoring and communicating quality-related metrics to senior staff, advocating for improvements, and communicating with customers on quality compliance, complaints, and audits. Additionally, you will collaborate with purchasing on vendor performance and drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste, improve efficiency, and promote a quality culture. Managing the budget is also a key responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Direct a staff of up to 50 people, including engineers, technicians, inspectors, and administrative personnel.

  • Hire staff and provide training.

  • Develop and enforce quality systems to ensure compliance with consensus standards and customer requirements.

  • Monitor and communicate measurement of quality-related metrics to senior staff.

  • Advocate for improvements in quality processes.

  • Communicate with customers regarding quality compliance, complaints, and audits.

  • Collaborate with purchasing on monitoring and improving vendor performance.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste and improve efficiency.

  • Manage the budget effectively.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical or management-related field.

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a direct QA role with advancement into supervisory and managerial roles.

  • Direct experience with FAA regulatory rules and offices in certification and Parts Manufacturing Approval.

  • Experience with root cause analysis and corrective action investigation.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Extensive knowledge of, or the ability to learn, the organization’s production processes.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to serve as a liaison with developers, project managers, and customer support.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Aerospace background.

  • Knowledge about First Article Inspection Reports per AS 9102.

  • Material Review Board experience.

  • Quality certifications such as CQE or CQA.

  • Supplier quality experience.

  • AS9100 audit experience.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Plainview, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $72.00 - $85.00/hr.
