Join our Cardiology team in a dynamic hybrid role that blends hands‑on patient care with cardiac diagnostics across the full cardiology service line, including EKG/Central Monitoring, Cardiology Procedures, and Nuclear Cardiology. The Patient Care Technician - Cardiology/EKG Hybrid provides direct patient care such as assisting with activities of daily living, obtaining vital signs, performing blood glucose testing, collecting specimens, supporting procedures, and transporting patients, while also fulfilling EKG Technician responsibilities including obtaining and processing 12‑lead EKGs, applying and monitoring telemetry, recognizing basic rhythm abnormalities, troubleshooting equipment, and ensuring accurate documentation and communication of results. This role offers meaningful variety, strong skill development in cardiology, and a predictable schedule that is primarily Monday through Friday with rotating weekend EKG coverage one weekend per month consisting of short morning hours. Job Responsibilities
Provides direct patient care, including ADLs, vital signs, weights, intake and output, blood glucose testing, telemetry application, specimen collection, and Foley care.
Assists with patient procedures, therapies, transport (including cardiac‑monitored patients), and activities of daily living; reports changes in patient condition to the RN.
Performs technical skills as trained and delegated, which may include IV insertion/removal, catheterization, bladder scanning, phlebotomy, point‑of‑care testing, 12‑lead EKGs, dressing care, and restraint application/removal per protocol.
Maintains required competencies, including Basic Arrhythmia, and performs advanced skills based on departmental need.
Accurately documents patient care and adheres to all hospital policies, safety standards, infection prevention practices, and confidentiality requirements.
Supports a safe and culturally respectful care environment for patients, families, and staff.
Communicates effectively with the interdisciplinary team and collaborates with other departments.
Supports unit operations, including call lights, phones, meal distribution, clerical tasks, equipment issue reporting, and patient transport.
Demonstrates accountability, professionalism, adaptability, and participation in quality initiatives, projects, and ongoing learning.
May transport medications between departments in accordance with hospital policy.
High school diploma or GED.
Must also have either
a) 2 years of general healthcare experience and meet requirements of Patient Care Technician title,
OR b) 1 year of experience (defined above) and enrollment in PT/OT/PA program with completion of at least one clinical rotation,
or c) 1 year of experience (defined above) and completion of a bachelor's degree in a health sciences field.
Annual completion of a professional contribution to be determined after hire
Successful completion of patient care technician senior class. Successful completion of eRecord training.
Nursing Student who has completed one clinical rotation, preferred Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic, or currently enrolled in an EMT or Paramedic program preferred.
