Job Summary:
The Bindery Operator is responsible for operating, setting up, and maintaining bindery and print finishing equipment, including folding machines, cutters, and related systems. This role ensures all printed materials are folded, cut, finished, and organized according to exact job specifications, production standards, and compliance requirements.
Some General Duties/Responsibilities:
- Bindery and Print Finishing Operations
- Set up and operate bindery equipment, including rollfed and cutsheet folding machines, cutters, slitters, and other print finishing equipment.
- Perform multiple fold types (letter fold, zfold, gate fold, double parallel, accordion, etc.) based on job ticket requirements.
- Review and interpret job tickets to ensure correct fold patterns, finishing instructions, code numbers, and production details.
- Maintain accuracy, consistency, and quality throughout production runs.
- Organize finished work in proper sequence and prepare materials for downstream processing.
- Production and Quality Control
- Inspect incoming printed materials for quality issues, alignment, and accuracy before processing.
- Monitor output for defects, incorrect folds, or equipment inconsistencies.
- Complete production paperwork: logs, job tickets, QC forms, and equipment documentation.
- Support overall print production workflow, ensuring jobs meet deadlines and quality standards.
- Maintenance and Safety
- Perform routine preventive maintenance on bindery and finishing equipment, including cleaning, lubrication, and replacing worn components.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area consistent with lean manufacturing standards.
- Follow all safety protocols and verify that machine guards, switches, and sensors are functioning properly.
- Comply with PCI security, data protection, and industry compliance requirements.
Education/Experience:
- Basic computer skills.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience as a Bindery Operator, Print Finishing Operator, Folder Operator, Cutter Operator, or similar role preferred.
- Hands-on experience with bindery equipment such as:
- Baum, MBO, Tecnau folding systems
- Champion Guillotine, Speedo cutter
- GMS Glue Systems
- Knowledge of commercial printing, direct mail production, and print manufacturing workflows preferred.
- Basic computer skills required; experience with MultiScan, File Lookup, AOI Match, or similar production tools is a plus.
- Ability to read and follow written and verbal production instructions.
