POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Grounds and Buildings Representative for the Range Maintenance Team and ensures the security, serviceability, and operational readiness of facilities, grounds, and training areas in direct support of military training missions. The position is responsible for the physical security and oversight of 17 fixed structures across approximately 10 acres. Duties include routine inspection, preventive maintenance, and identification and reporting of facility deficiencies requiring corrective action or formal work orders. The incumbent coordinates with contractors and Facility Engineers to facilitate access to buildings and sites requiring repair, renovation, or construction. Serves as the designated facilities key and lock manager, maintaining strict accountability and control of keys for all secured structures and 32 pieces of equipment assigned to the maintenance compound. Coordinates and executes day-to-day Integrated Training Area Management activities to sustain training area availability and compliance. Conducts weekly inspections and post hazardous-weather assessments of all structures, maneuver trails, bivouac sites, landing zones, and training areas throughout the 12,500-acre range and training complex. Monitors and enforces the Safety Program for all range maintenance personnel, including driver and equipment operator qualifications, new employee safety orientation, facility inspections, surface danger zone updates, and environmental compliance requirements. Provides technical input and recommendations for long-range maintenance planning to ensure training areas and facilities are available in a timely manner to supported units. Delivers customer service and coordination support to military units and organizations regarding resource availability at battalion staging areas, bivouac sites, dig sites, and maneuver corridors. Serves as the Range Maintenance representative within the Range Facility Management Support System to verify and document training area readiness and utilization status. Coordinates with Wildlife and Fisheries personnel to support feral hog mitigation efforts within training areas when required. Maintains working knowledge of computer systems and basic networking sufficient to process, track, and report operational data. Maintains comprehensive knowledge of field training activities, including the safe operation of grounds keeping equipment, heavy equipment, and facility and structural maintenance practices. Tracks equipment maintenance schedules, fuel usage, and consumption to ensure operational readiness and adequate supply levels. Remains available for duty in support of state and federal emergency response operations. Assists the Range Manager and Range Superintendent in monitoring and executing ITAM and RTLP funding plans for range and training area maintenance. Identifies, reports, and responds to unexploded ordnance, environmental hazards, and installation safety violations in coordination with appropriate agencies. Performs other duties as assigned in support of state and federal mission requirements.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge and Skill: Comprehensive knowledge of range operations, training area management, and applicable policies and procedures. Combination of education, training, and experience demonstrating proficiency in the operation of light and heavy equipment. Possession of military or civilian equivalent light and heavy equipment operator licenses or certifications. Working knowledge of applicable occupational safety, environmental, and equipment operation laws and regulations.
Abilities: Ability to lift up to 25 pounds unassisted, including overhead lifting. Ability to work safely and effectively in proximity to firearms, live-fire ranges, and military training activities.
Experience: Experience in grounds maintenance, facility maintenance, or military training area support is required.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must have a valid Driver's License, Social Security Card and Birth Certificate
Must qualify to obtain a Department of Defense Common Access Card (CAC) Card.
Must be available to report to duty during emergency or disaster situations.
Other periodic travel may be required.
Must meet physical requirements to perform functions of the position.
Must attend/complete all Louisiana Military Department (LMD) annual training and other training required for the position.
