SUMMARY
The incumbent performs a variety of manual tasks which support maintenance operations in the cleaning, repair, improvement or construction of sewer lines. Operates and cares for utility equipment and property according to the requirements needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Follow instructions of the Foreman, Equipment Operator and Supervisor.
2. Assist in loading and unloading materials at maintenance shop or job site.
3. Operate maintenance and construction equipment under supervision.
4. Perform manual labor as necessary.
5. Comply with recommended safety procedures and guidelines that include wearing proper safety equipment.
6. Erect safety devices according to traffic regulations.
7. Perform backfill and clean-up.
8. Work extended hours as needed.
9. Responsible for funds and/or equipment valued at up to \$150,000.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL COMMUNICATION
Contacts within the department only.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must obtain and maintain a Class B CDL with Tanker endorsement within 90 days of hire.

While performing the duties of this position the incumbent is exposed to outdoor weather conditions, extreme heat and cold and wet or humid condition all non weather related. The incumbent works in high precarious places, near moving mechanical parts, is at risk of electrical shock and/or vibration. The incumbent is exposed to fumes and airborne particles. Also works in confined spaces.
The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
