Summit School is seeking apassionate, collaborative, and student-centered Middle School English Language Arts Teacherto join our thriving campus community in Ahwatukee. The Middle School ELA Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging, rigorous instruction aligned to standards and Summits instructional philosophy.

Instructional Focus

  • Literature:

o Teach novels, short stories, poetry, and nonfiction

o Facilitate critical thinking, analysis, and discussion

  • Grammar & Language:

o Explicit instruction in grammar, conventions, and sentence structure

o Application of skills within authentic reading and writing tasks

  • Writing:

o Narrative, informational, and argumentative writing

o Emphasis on organization, voice, clarity, and revision

Core Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver standards-aligned ELA instruction
  • Use assessment data to inform instruction and differentiation
  • Provide timely, meaningful feedback to students
  • Foster a classroom culture rooted in respect, accountability, and curiosity
  • Collaborate closely with Middle School colleagues and leadership
  • Communicate proactively and professionally with families
  • Participate in school events, meetings, and professional learning

Our Middle School Model

Summits Middle School program is intentionally designed to maximize depth, engagement, and instructional quality.

  • 80-minute instructional blocks every other day, allowing teachers to:

o Dive deeply into literature, writing, and grammar

o Facilitate rich discussions and student collaboration

o Differentiate instruction and provide targeted feedback

  • Abbreviated classes every Friday, supporting:

o Skill reinforcement

o Intervention and enrichment

o Reflection, assessment, and student conferencing

Each Middle School teacher receives two daily preparation periods(approximately two hours total)for:

  • Team collaboration and vertical alignment
  • Instructional planning and curriculum design
  • Grading and meaningful feedback
  • Data analysis and progress monitoring
  • Family communication and professional reflection

This structure supports thoughtful teaching, strong teamwork, and sustainable work-life balance.
