Actalent Manufacturing Engineer in Phoenix, Arizona

Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer (Aerospace)Job Description

This Manufacturing Engineer position supports an aerospace CNC machine shop that is consolidating production work from one facility to another. You will play a key role in transferring existing product lines, with a strong focus on cleaning up and standardizing manufacturing documentation, including drawings, bills of material (BOMs), work instructions, and ERP structures. The operation specializes in cockpit instrument cluster cans, avionics chassis, and thermal heat exchangers, and you will help define, document, and support robust, repeatable manufacturing processes within this high-mix, low-volume environment.

Responsibilities

  • Transfer existing manufacturing work from one facility to another by updating and standardizing manufacturing documentation, drawings, BOMs, and written work instructions, including adding visual content where helpful.

  • Develop, create, revise, and maintain manufacturing routers, travelers, and operation sequences, ensuring accurate BOM and B00 structures within the ERP system.

  • Develop and maintain detailed, clear work instructions that align with quality and regulatory requirements.

  • Partner with senior manufacturing engineers to translate engineering requirements into robust and repeatable manufacturing processes.

  • Serve as a liaison between engineering, quality, supply chain, and production to ensure alignment with customer and regulatory requirements.

  • Provide hands-on shop floor support to production teams in an aerospace CNC machine shop environment.

  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on manufacturability, workflow efficiency, and overall operational performance, using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies and process mapping.

  • Assist in identifying, designing, and implementing tooling, fixture, and automation improvements to support CNC machining operations.

  • Use SolidWorks to design tooling and fixtures used in CNC machines, ensuring designs support efficient and stable production.

  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for nonconformances and rework, maintaining a strong focus on quality and process reliability.

  • Maintain accurate documentation, including revision control, for all manufacturing processes, routers, BOMs, and work instructions.

  • Analyze and improve manufacturing processes, workflows, and shop layout to optimize throughput and reduce waste.

  • Support new product introduction (NPI) activities by defining processes, documentation, and tooling requirements for new parts and assemblies.

  • Support and help maintain the Quality Management System (QMS), including preparation for and participation in customer, internal, and regulatory audits.

Essential Skills

  • 1–3 years of experience in manufacturing, aerospace, or a related environment; internships or co-op experience is acceptable.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Aeronautical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering.

  • 1–3 years of experience with BOM creation, manufacturing routers/travelers, CAD files, and written work instructions or standard work instructions.

  • 1 year of experience in tooling and fixture design using SolidWorks, with solid proficiency (6/10 or better).

  • 1+ years of experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, specifications, and work instructions.

  • 1–3 years of experience working with an ERP system (any platform).

  • Hands-on experience supporting manufacturing processes in a CNC machining or similar production environment.

  • Ability to develop and maintain clear, detailed manufacturing documentation and work instructions.

  • Strong analytical skills to perform root cause analysis and implement effective corrective actions.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including engineering, quality, supply chain, and production.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Engineering degree is preferred; candidates without a degree who have progressed into a Manufacturing Engineer role through experience will be considered.

  • Experience working in an aerospace or aerospace sub-tier supplier environment.

  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma tools and methodologies for continuous improvement.

  • Experience designing tooling and fixtures specifically for CNC machining operations.

  • Experience supporting or maintaining a Quality Management System (QMS).

  • Comfort working in a high-mix, low-volume contract manufacturing environment.

  • Ability to contribute to process mapping, workflow optimization, and shop layout improvements.

  • Strong communication skills to act as an effective liaison between engineering, quality, and production teams.

Work Environment

The role is based in an aerospace CNC machine shop that operates vertical and horizontal mills and lathes in a high-mix, low-volume contract manufacturing environment. You will work closely with production on the shop floor, supporting machining operations that produce cockpit instrument cluster cans, avionics chassis, and thermal heat exchangers. The facility uses an ERP system (proprietary in-house platform) to manage BOMs, routers, and production data, and relies on SolidWorks for tooling and fixture design. The environment emphasizes quality, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement, with frequent cross-functional collaboration among engineering, quality, supply chain, and production teams.
