Field Service Technician - Semiconductor - North Phoenix, AZ

The Field Service Technician supports the pre‑assembly, mechanical build, installation, and maintenance of automated material handling systems and conveyor equipment used in the semiconductor industry. Working onsite in North Phoenix with no travel required for ongoing work, this role focuses on hands‑on mechanical and electromechanical tasks, routine installations, and troubleshooting of complex automated systems. The technician collaborates closely with engineers, supervisors, and other technicians, and typically works under the direction of a Technical Service Engineer. This position offers long‑term stability and growth within a high‑tech semiconductor environment. Job Responsibilities

  • Perform routine installations and maintenance on assigned products, including semiconductor material handling equipment, conveyors, and AMHS systems.

  • Support pre‑assembly, mechanical build, and installation activities for automated material handling and conveyor systems.

  • Use established corporate processes to locate software revisions, documentation, and technical procedures, and verify software status as required.

  • Under supervision, perform log analysis of system errors to determine whether issues are hardware‑ or software‑related.

  • Troubleshoot and repair both hardware and software issues on complex automated and electromechanical systems, identifying root causes of failures.

  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, blueprints, SOPs, and work instructions to perform assembly, installation, and repair tasks.

  • Use hand tools, power tools, workshop tools, and precision measuring equipment safely and effectively during assembly, maintenance, and repair work.

  • Execute preventive and corrective maintenance on automated equipment, including motors, belts, proximity sensors, and electromechanical components.

  • Perform installation, repair, and wiring tasks on electromechanical systems using appropriate electrical diagnostic tools such as multimeters.

  • Support warehouse‑based staging, kitting, and equipment preparation activities for front‑end and back‑end semiconductor operations.

  • Professionally interact with external and internal customers and departments, serving as a liaison between the customer and engineering for daily site operations when needed.

  • Document work performed, maintenance actions, findings, and issues in accordance with procedures and submit all necessary paperwork with supervision.

  • Follow all safety, quality, cleanliness, and cleanroom standards required in a semiconductor and warehouse environment.

  • Collaborate with engineers, supervisors, and other technicians to support operational goals, share information, and ensure smooth shift transitions.

  • Provide clear shift hand‑off communication for front‑end and back‑end day shift coverage and other assigned shifts.

  • Climb ladders frequently and perform tasks that may require stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling while working on equipment.

  • Work safely in proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical systems, and in occasionally high, precarious, or confined spaces, following all safety protocols.

  • Use electrical schematics and component‑level identification skills to diagnose and correct issues in electromechanical devices and systems.

Job Requirements

  • 1+ year of experience in electromechanics (motorized products, belts, proximity sensors, conveyors).

  • 1+ year of experience working with conveyors, automated equipment, material handling systems, or AMHS environment.

  • 1+ year of experience with mechanical assembly, maintenance, field service, electrical diagnostic tools, and shop and hand tools.

  • 2+ years of experience in technical field service within the semiconductor or equipment manufacturing industries.

  • Will consider a technical Associate’s degree, technical school program, or military certification instead.

  • Ability to follow mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, SOP's, and technical documentation (includes at component level).

  • Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair electromechanical systems and devices, including complex automated systems.

  • Ability to meet physical demands of the job (see Work Environment for more details).

  • Basic computer skills for documentation, reporting, and accessing technical information.

  • Strong customer engagement skills and the ability to interact professionally stakeholders.

Additional Skills - Preferred but Not Required

  • Semiconductor industry experience in a fab, AMHS environment, equipment manufacturer, or supplier.

  • Experience specifically with automated material handling systems (AMHS) used in semiconductor facilities.

  • Exposure to electrical, pneumatic, or electromechanical systems beyond basic mechanical work.

  • Familiarity with cleanroom practices and working around semiconductor production tools and environments.

  • Experience with or exposure to systems and components from suppliers such as Daifuku or LAM (or similar equipment manufacturers).

Work Environment

This role is based onsite in North Phoenix in a warehouse and equipment staging environment that supports semiconductor operations, including work at a semiconductor fabrication facility. The position operates primarily on a day shift schedule with front‑end and back‑end coverage, and uses a compressed workweek that alternates between three and four days of work each week, with overtime available. Candidates may indicate their preferred shift but should remain open to assignment to front‑end or back‑end coverage, and a shift differential is available for night shifts. Initial training includes travel to Oregon for approximately the first two weeks. The work takes place in proximity to moving mechanical parts, automated material handling systems, conveyors, and electrical systems, and may occasionally involve high, precarious, or confined spaces. Employees may be exposed at times to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, electrical shock risks, and vibrations, and must be comfortable working in confined spaces. The noise level is typically moderate. Personal protective equipment is required, and strict safety, quality, and cleanliness standards associated with semiconductor and warehouse environments apply. The role requires frequent ladder climbing and occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, as well as regularly lifting or moving up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, along with the ability to adjust focus. Typical attire onsite at the fabrication facility consists of jeans and a polo shirt, with additional PPE or cleanroom garments as required by specific tasks. Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record, with the ability to obtain necessary travel documents for training.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $28.00/hr.
