Job Description

The Enterprise Ways of Working Enablement team is responsible for transforming how American Express plans, invests, and operates by enabling modern, consistent ways of working that empower teams to deliver exceptional experiences and customer value with speed and impact. We partner with stakeholders across the enterprise to drive adoption of practices, processes, and tools that improve collaboration, alignment, and efficiency.

The Director, Enterprise Ways of Working Enablement plays a critical leadership role in shaping and scaling this transformation. This leader owns key elements of the enablement strategy, translates enterprise vision into executable roadmaps, and ensures teams across the organization are equipped to successfully adopt and sustain new ways of working.

Reporting to the Vice President, Ways of Working Enablement & Talent, this role leads enablement initiatives, supports a team focused on training and coaching practitioners and leaders, and serves as a trusted thought partner to stakeholders across Enterprise Technology Services and the broader Enterprise.

Responsibilities

Enterprise Enablement Strategy & Execution

  • Define and drive the enterprise enablement strategy Ways of Working, leveraging training, coaching, and self-service resources to support adoption across roles, lines of business, and work types

  • Translate enterprise vision into scalable enablement models that balance consistency with flexibility and local context.

  • Adoption & Practice Enablement

  • Champion best-in-class ways of working practices, coaching practitioners, leaders, and teams on application - not just theory.

  • Partner with initiative leaders to design effective operating forums, team structures, and governance models.

  • Establish and reinforce standards for artifacts, ceremonies, metrics, and execution quality across the enterprise.

Enablement Experiences & Content

  • Oversee the design and delivery of training experiences, including self-paced e-learnings, instructor-led sessions, workshops, playbooks, and digital resources.

  • Own and evolve the Ways of Working knowledge library on the Square, ensuring content is current, discoverable, and actionable.

  • Establish standards for content quality, usability, and consistency.

Cross-Functional Partnership & Influence

  • Act as a trusted advisor to leaders across Business Units and Enterprise Technology Services.

  • Partner closely with teams responsible for planning, investment governance, and portfolio management to embed ways of working into enterprise processes.

  • Influence outcomes through thought leadership, facilitation, and strong relationship-building rather than authority.

Measurement, Insights & Continuous Improvement

  • Define success metrics for enablement efforts, balancing delivery outcomes with technology health and operational effectiveness.

  • Use insights and feedback to continuously evolve enablement approaches and improve enterprise adoption.

  • Ensure learnings are captured and scaled through strong knowledge management practices.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead and develop a team of enablement professionals, providing clarity of purpose, coaching, and accountability.

  • Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and high performance within the enablement team.

  • Serve as a role model for modern leadership and ways of working.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience leading large-scale, cross-functional transformation initiatives, preferably in technology-enabled organizations.

  • Deep expertise in modern ways of working – understanding how organizations align people, work, decisions, and learning in an environment of constant change.

  • Proven ability to influence and partner effectively across complex organizational structures.

  • Strong strategic mindset with the ability to translate ambiguity into structured, actionable plans.

  • Demonstrated success driving adoption and measurable outcomes at enterprise scale.

  • Exceptional communication, facilitation, and executive presence.

  • Experience coaching leaders and practitioners through change.

  • Comfort operating in fast-paced, evolving environments with competing priorities
