Job Summary
The Athletics Facilities Custodial Director is responsible for overseeing all custodial operations across athletic facilities, ensuring a clean, safe, and event-ready environment at all times. This role partners closely with the Athletic Department and operations leadership to deliver exceptional service, maintain compliance with contractual standards, and support seamless execution of athletic events.
This leader will drive operational excellence through team development, quality assurance, and proactive facility management, while maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction and fiscal responsibility.
Athletics & Event Operations
Develop and manage game day custodial schedules to ensure full coverage and event readiness
Conduct facility quality walks before, during, and after all sporting events
Partner with the Athletic Department by attending weekly planning meetings
Ensure all athletic venues are maintained to the highest standards for athletes, staff, and guests
Operations & Service Delivery
Oversee daily custodial operations for assigned athletic facilities
Maintain high levels of customer satisfaction through consistent service excellence
Conduct routine facility inspections and implement corrective actions as needed
Ensure proper use, care, and maintenance of equipment and supplies
Manage special projects and coordinate event-related setups and cleanups
Team Leadership & Development
Recruit, hire, onboard, and train custodial staff and supervisors
Provide ongoing coaching and development to improve performance and service quality
Enforce company policies, including discipline and performance management procedures
Maintain employee records and ensure all required documentation is up to date
Financial & Administrative Management
Manage labor, supplies, and expenses to meet or exceed budget targets and profit margins
Monitor timekeeping systems and ensure accurate payroll processing
Order supplies and maintain appropriate inventory levels
Understand and manage contract specifications, including extra work orders and billing procedures
Prepare and submit quality control reports and operational documentation
Compliance & Safety
Maintain a safe working environment by enforcing safety protocols and best practices
Ensure all staff are properly trained on equipment, procedures, and safety requirements
Communication & Collaboration
Establish and maintain strong relationships with clients, Athletic Department staff, and internal leadership
Serve as the primary point of contact for custodial operations within athletic facilities
Respond promptly to operational needs, including availability for urgent or after-hours situations
Qualifications
Proven experience in custodial, facilities, or operations management (athletics or large venues preferred)
Strong leadership and team management skills
Experience managing budgets, labor, and operational performance
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and event schedules
Knowledge of custodial equipment, processes, and safety standards
Strong communication and organizational skills
