Job Title: Crane Technician

Job Description

The Crane Technician inspects, maintains, and repairs overhead cranes, below-the-hook lifting devices, and other production equipment in an industrial environment. This role combines advanced electrical and mechanical troubleshooting with a strong focus on safety, reliability, and clear communication.

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed inspections and preventive maintenance on overhead cranes and below-the-hook lifting devices to ensure safe and reliable operation.

  • Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical issues on cranes and related lifting equipment using structured troubleshooting steps.

  • Assist with repairs and maintenance of other production machinery and equipment as assigned.

  • Work with 480VAC 3-phase power systems, including safely de-energizing equipment and verifying zero energy in accordance with lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.

  • Read and interpret ladder logic and electrical schematics to perform electrical diagnostics and repairs.

  • Carry out mechanical preventive maintenance tasks, including adjustments, replacements, and alignments on production equipment.

  • Operate a forklift safely, or quickly learn to operate a forklift, to move materials and access equipment as needed.

  • Document inspection findings, maintenance activities, and repair work clearly and accurately in written reports.

  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, maintenance teams, and production staff about equipment status, repair needs, and safety concerns.

  • Work both indoors and outdoors as required to access and service cranes and production equipment.

  • Follow all safety policies and procedures, including LOTO, and maintain a clean and organized work area.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support maintenance and production operations.

Essential Skills

  • Over 1 year of experience as a crane inspector.

  • Over 5 years of combined electrical and mechanical maintenance experience.

  • Hands-on experience working with 480VAC 3-phase electrical systems.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience performing mechanical preventive maintenance.

  • Proficiency in electrical troubleshooting, including the ability to diagnose both common and uncommon problems methodically.

  • Ability to read ladder logic and perform electrical diagnostics and repairs.

  • Knowledge of lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and safe practices for de-energizing equipment.

  • Forklift experience or the ability and willingness to quickly learn forklift operation.

  • Excellent verbal communication and professional writing skills for clear documentation and reporting.

  • Ability to work safely and effectively in an industrial environment with multiple production machines.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Associate degree or higher in a related technical field is recommended.

  • Crane inspector certification is highly desirable but not required.

  • Experience working both indoors and outdoors in varying conditions.

  • Background in a manufacturing or industrial production environment.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to follow structured troubleshooting steps.

  • Attention to detail and a commitment to equipment reliability and workplace safety.

Work Environment

The role is based in an industrial shop environment with numerous production machines. The facility can at times be noisy and dirty, reflecting an active manufacturing setting. You will work both indoors on the shop floor and outdoors as needed to access cranes and equipment. The position involves regular interaction with industrial electrical systems, mechanical components, and lifting equipment, requiring consistent adherence to safety protocols, including lockout/tagout procedures and safe operation of forklifts and other equipment. Working hours and shifts may vary based on production and maintenance needs, and the environment is hands-on, fast-paced, and safety-focused.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Phoenix, AZ 85034.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
