Temple University Hospital, Inc. Pathologist Assistant Supervisor in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

For the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in a University Hospital (Temple University Hospital, Inc., Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine - Philadelphia, PA): oversee the operations in critical areas of the anatomic pathology including specimen receipt, gross room, autopsy, and biobanking activities; oversee and participate in all aspects of  work including frozen sections, grossing, autopsies; in a clinical setting, lead teaching incidental to and performed in conjunction with the supervisory responsibilities within the clinical anatomic pathology laboratory, including hands-on instruction in gross pathology techniques, specimen dissection, and anatomic pathology workflow for pathology residents, medical students, and pathologists' assistant students; read and participate  in  quality improvement projects; maintain QC and QA data, and ensure accreditation readiness (e.g. CAP, TJC); assist residents and pathologist in processing, dissection and description of gross anatomic findings of submitted specimens in accordance with established procedures; create staff schedules, create/update teaching materials, review/edit/create standard portioning procedures and ensure regulatory and accreditation compliance; support  autopsy service including confirming consent  accuracy, preparing for  autopsy and ensuring cleanliness of the autopsy suite; work under direct supervision of the Pathologist to obtain representative tissue sections that will be converted to glass microscopic slides for the Pathologist (Physician) to determine medical conditions that contributed to the cause of death.

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor or foreign equivalent degree in Medical Technology, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Life Sciences with 26 science credits with appropriate experience in CLIA laboratory, or a related field.

  2. 4 years of experience in the job offered or 4 years of experience as a Non-certified Pathologist Assistant. The required experience must include performing complex specimen grossing and intraoperative frozen sections; assisting with autopsies; overseeing daily gross room operations; ensuring adherence to quality assurance and quality control standards; maintaining compliance with accreditation requirements (CAP and TJC); training and supervising pathology residents, medical students, and staff; and participating in departmental quality improvement initiatives.

40 hours per week.
