Deborah's Little Shepherds Childcare Lead & Assistant Teachers Needed- Early Child Care in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Position Summary The center-based Teacher develops early learning-focused, developmentally appropriate and curriculum-based lesson plans for children in a classroom setting. Teachers implement the curriculum in-person with fidelity, following DHS & Keystone STARS Standards and integrating PA Early Learning Outcomes Framework in their teachings. While in a classroom setting, teachers address individual needs of children in their care and provide nurturing, language-rich, and engaging learning experiences. Teachers provide and model high-quality interactions, promote the families' ability to support children's health improvement, social empowerment and development towards school readiness, and encourage parent participation in all classroom activities.

Essential Functions

  • Obtains and maintains in good standing all required credentials, certifications and trainings deemed necessary to perform their job duties such as, but not limited to Infant / Toddler CDA credential (if applicable) and Pediatrics 1st Aid / CPR license.
  • Attends orientation and ongoing in-person and/or virtual training sessions and other training as assigned/recommended by their Supervisor or Director
  • Plans weekly lesson plans that include activities to support child's individual learning and progress.
  • Communicates daily with parents and staff regarding educational strengths and/or concerns of enrolled children as needed.
  • Utilizes a professional, culturally-sensitive and respectful approach when visiting/addressing parents at all times and during all types of communication.
  • Maintains confidentiality for all children and family records.
  • Conducts children's assessments and screenings to determine strengths and areas of need on a timely basis (according to PA Early Learning Standards) and uses this information to set goals in collaboration with the family.
  • Encourage parent participation during all DLS events such as parent meetings, trainings, policy council meetings, parent orientations, and volunteering opportunities.
  • Assists in organizing meetings and other special events.
  • Responds promptly to inter-agency communication using Brightwheel, e-mail, Internet and word processing.
  • Meets with supervisor regularly and on a monthly basis to discuss children's progress.
  • Observes punctuality, responsibility and accountability in regards to their daily schedule, discussing with their supervisor in advance any time-off requests.
  • Records all feedings, naps, and daily observations as needed.
  • Track daily attendance for all children as needed.
  • Assists with meal preparation in classroom and participates in family-style meal service.
  • Maintains the cleanliness and safety of the classroom furniture and equipment;
  • Maintains ratios in classrooms at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned within the scope of position expectations.

  • Ability to work with parents in the community and other volunteers
  • Understanding of diverse family dynamics and cultural differences with the ability to work with and empower families
  • Understanding of DLS mission, goals, and objectives and ability to work independently with a high level of energy and contribute as part of a larger team.
  • Knowledge of the concepts and practices associated with early childhood education and child development issues
  • Knowledge of and sensitive to the issues facing the community served.
  • Knowledge of basic classroom management procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal skills as demonstrated by compassionate, courteous, cordial, cooperative, and professional interaction with diverse groups of co-workers, families, and members of the community.
  • Ability to operate a computer and use a variety of common software programs including Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, and customized databases.
  • Effective and accurate documentation of lesson plans, obse vations and daily schedules.

Experience, Education, and Licensure

DLS Teacher position requires at least one of the following credentials:

  • Child Development Associate (CDA) credential
  • AA /AAS in Early Childhood Education or equivalent
  • AA/AAS in related field with at least 9 credits
  • Prior experience working in a classroom setting with children
