Intertek’s Building Science Solutions (BSS) group is primarily focused on building enclosure consulting, commissioning, and field performance testing for new construction and retrofit projects.

What are we looking for?

Intertek is seeking a motivated intern to join our team as we execute the replacement of various roof systems. This internship provides hands ‑ on exposure to building science concepts, roofing design best practices, and real ‑ world field experience. You ’ ll learn the theory behind proper roof design and common failure mechanisms, while also gaining invaluable on ‑ site experience reviewing installed systems for compliance with design documents, manufacturer installation instructions, and industry standards—helping you develop into a well ‑ rounded construction industry professional.

Shift/Schedule: Monday-Friday, full-time.

What you’ll do:

  • Assist in drafting technical reports based on field observations, test results, and collected data

  • Support the preparation of construction documents, details, and project correspondence

  • Participate in construction administration and quality‑assurance activities, including jobsite visits to observe roofing installation and document progress

  • Maintain accurate and organized field records, including notes, photographs, and test documentation

  • Assist with setup, execution, and data collection for on‑site testing of roofing and building enclosure systems

  • Assist with review roofing submittals, shop drawings, and manufacturer installation requirements under staff guidance

  • Help identify installation issues or deviations from project requirements during field observations

  • Contribute to research on roofing materials, assemblies, and industry best practices

  • Prepare summaries, diagrams, or technical graphics for internal use or client deliverables

  • Collaborate with project managers and senior staff to track project progress and follow up on outstanding items

  • Travel as needed based on project and business requirements

  • Perform physical tasks associated with field work and testing activities

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in construction, engineering, architecture or a related field

  • Desire to learn about and gain hands-on experience with the building envelope including roofing, wall cladding systems, curtain wall, window and door systems, waterproofing, etc.

  • Strong problem solving and communication skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office & Outlook

  • Ability to perform work from ladders, roof levels, etc.

  • Ability to routinely lift a minimum of 50 pounds, climb stairs and ladders, bend, crawl, push and pull as needed

  • Willingness to travel. Travel to regional construction sites, some with during ‑ the ‑ week overnight stays. Assume 60% travel.

  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record

Preferred Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings

  • AutoCAD / Revit experience

  • Revu Bluebeam experience

  • General knowledge of basic steel and concrete design and construction practices
