Job Title: IT Technician

Job Description

The IT Technician serves as the primary on-site IT resource, working closely with an external Managed Service Provider to deliver reliable, day-to-day technical support and systems administration. This hands-on role combines Tier 1 and Tier 2 support with ownership of internal IT improvements, small-to-mid-sized projects, and technology initiatives. The position is ideal for a technically strong professional who enjoys troubleshooting, leading IT projects, and driving innovation through AI tools and automation to enhance business operations and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 technical support across hardware, software, and user systems.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues independently, ensuring minimal disruption to users.

  • Set up, configure, and deploy desktops, laptops, and mobile devices for new and existing staff.

  • Manage user onboarding and offboarding, including accounts, permissions, and equipment assignments.

  • Serve as the primary internal point of contact for IT support requests and inquiries.

  • Administer and manage user accounts in Active Directory, Microsoft 365, and Entra ID.

  • Administer software licensing for systems such as ERP, CRM, SolidWorks, Microsoft, and other business applications.

  • Handle software-related tickets that involve coordinating with licensing vendors.

  • Maintain endpoint and device management systems and enforce security policies and standards.

  • Monitor system performance and escalate advanced or complex issues to the Managed Service Provider when necessary.

  • Lead and execute small-to-mid-sized IT projects, including hardware rollouts, upgrades, and software implementations.

  • Identify recurring technical issues, analyze root causes, and implement long-term solutions.

  • Research, evaluate, and recommend new software, hardware, and tools that support business goals.

  • Act as the internal lead in coordinating system upgrades and infrastructure improvements.

  • Collaborate with organizational leadership and the Managed Service Provider on technology initiatives and roadmaps.

  • Evaluate and implement AI tools to improve internal workflows, productivity, and operational efficiency.

  • Develop or support basic automation solutions, including scripts, workflows, and reporting tools.

  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes using AI and automation and propose practical solutions.

  • Assist with rollout, user adoption, and ongoing support for new technologies and tools.

  • Stay current on practical AI applications and automation trends relevant to business operations.

  • Act as the primary liaison between internal users and the Managed Service Provider, ensuring clear communication.

  • Escalate complex issues to the Managed Service Provider and coordinate timely resolution.

  • Assist with cybersecurity efforts, infrastructure changes, and major IT projects in partnership with the Managed Service Provider.

  • Ensure proper documentation and knowledge sharing between internal systems and the Managed Service Provider.

  • Maintain accurate IT documentation, including procedures, configurations, and knowledge base articles.

  • Track and manage IT assets and support hardware lifecycle planning and replacement strategies.

  • Enforce IT policies, security standards, and best practices across the organization.

  • Support users working in LAN/WAN environments and remote access configurations, including VPN.

Essential Skills

  • 4–8+ years of hands-on IT experience in support and systems administration roles.

  • Strong experience providing Tier 1 and Tier 2 support for hardware, software, and user systems.

  • Proficiency with endpoint and device management tools.

  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP.

  • Experience supporting users in LAN/WAN environments and Microsoft Windows networking.

  • Experience configuring and supporting remote access solutions, including VPN.

  • PowerShell or other scripting experience for automation and administrative tasks.

  • Experience or strong interest in AI tools, security, automation, and workflow optimization.

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve issues independently.

  • Ability to manage user accounts in environments such as Active Directory, Microsoft 365, and Entra ID.

  • Ability to administer software licensing and coordinate with software vendors.

  • A+ certification strongly preferred.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with virtualization environments at an administration level, including VMware and Hyper-V.

  • Exposure to ERP systems or manufacturing and engineering software environments.

  • CompTIA A+ certification.

  • CompTIA Network+ certification.

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals or similar certifications.

  • Experience working with or alongside a Managed Service Provider.

  • Familiarity with tools and concepts related to AI, automation, scripting, and workflow optimization.

  • Ability to research and evaluate new technologies and present recommendations to leadership.

  • Strong communication skills to effectively liaise between users and external IT partners.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Pewaukee, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $85000.00 - $100000.00/yr.

Profit sharing, 401K, Health, Dental, Vision and Annual bonus
