The School Based Program Registered Nurse provides healthcare for school-aged students within an educational system.  He or she handles the daily health issues that occur with students who attend the school and serves as the health resource to staff members in order to enhance health and wellness in the school community.

1. Provides healthcare services to students.
   1. Evaluates health of students and provides nursing medical care services within scope of practice; reports findings to medical providers.
   2. Prepares student healthcare plans, supervises the implementation, and records services as appropriate.
   3. Educates and counsels students on good health habits and other health related topics.
   4. Maintains appropriate documentation, including health reports and health plans; provides reports to parents, school personnel, providers, and other appropriate parties.
2. Provides healthcare services to schools.
   1. Plans and prepares school health program in collaboration with the school administrators and others as appropriate.
   2. Instructs school staff in subjects such as chronic illnesses, health defects, blood borne pathogens, first aids, emergency care/AED use and other health related issues.
   3. Conducts parent conferences, discusses the student health, and acts as liaison between providers, parents, and school staff.
   4. Identifies and meets social, emotional, and physical needs of students.
   5. Implements any needed health services, such as appropriate sanitation practices; collaborates with others for implementation, such as Health and Community Agencies.
