Job Title: Material Handler
Job Description
We are seeking dedicated individuals to join our team as Material Handlers. This role requires training on first shift for at least two weeks, where candidates will learn inventory locations, color coding for steel, and crane operation. The position involves both indoor and outdoor work in various weather conditions, and requires walking up to 8-10 miles per shift.
Responsibilities
Train on first shift for at least two weeks to learn inventory locations and color coding for steel.
Shadow trainers and participate in general clean-up activities.
Operate cranes, load flatbed trailers and railcars, and perform rigging duties.
Receive inventory, move materials, fill out shipping reports, and document all outgoing loads.
Adhere to all safety rules and regulations while working around flatbed trucks and railcar systems.
Potentially train to be a saw or brake operator, forklift operator, or operate steel bending machines or beam saws.
Essential Skills
Experience in heavy industry or construction is required.
Ability to read a tape measure, verified by test or reference.
Capacity to learn and retain information based on color coding systems.
Physical ability to lift up to 50lbs, though most products require crane lifting.
Experience operating equipment safely in environments similar to construction or steel work.
Ability to jump onto and off trailers safely to rig steel beams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Overhead crane experience in heavy industry or military is preferred.
Flexibility for training on day shift prior to moving to off shifts.
Comfortable with physical demands such as reaching, stooping, and squatting.

Work Environment
This role involves working both inside and outside, with steel stored in buildings and yards. The environment can be very hot in summer and cold in winter, surrounded by steel. Safety gear including hard hats, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots with metatarsals is required. The facility features gravel flooring with some concrete areas, offering a construction-like atmosphere.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Petersburg, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
