Job Title: Business Development Manager
Salary starting from £76,424 ( depending on experience)
Location : Peterborough, UK

About IPSD
Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L Cat® and Perkins engines that power over 5000 applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. The Opportunity
We’re looking for a Business Development Manager who is passionate about customers and commercial growth. This role sits at the heart of our organisation, connecting customers, products, and the wider Caterpillar and Perkins enterprise to identify opportunities and deliver customer‑focused solutions that drive commercial success.
This position works with global internal and external stakeholders to identify opportunities, develop customer‑focused solutions, and translate customer needs into value‑creating outcomes across a diverse product and solution portfolio.
A key responsibility of the role is to establish and maintain effective relationships with key OEM and enterprise stakeholders , enabling the organisation to identify, evaluate, and pursue new business opportunities across multiple technologies, products, and services.
This role is suited to individuals who are motivated by solving customer challenges, comfortable working across brands, regions, and functions , and interested in solutions beyond diesel engines alone .
What You Will Do:
The Business Development Manager will:
Identify and analyse business development opportunities through a clear understanding of customer needs, market conditions, and operational strengths and gaps.
Work closely with global sales teams and enterprise stakeholders to support the development of sales programmes aligned with short‑ and long‑term strategies.
Champion customer focus by engaging directly with OEMs, gathering feedback, and ensuring customer requirements are central to business decisions and solution development.
Support the development of customer solutions that maximise value , drawing on technical, commercial, and cross‑functional inputs.
Contribute to operational improvement , including supporting sales effectiveness, resolving customer issues, and enabling teams to respond to changing OEM, end-user and market needs.
Operate effectively in a global, cross‑brand environment , collaborating across Caterpillar and Perkins brands to deliver consistent, customer‑centric outcomes.
What You Have:
Customer Focus: Actively seeks to understand customer needs, validates requirements, and translates insights into practical, value‑based solutions.
Demonstrated interest in identifying and solving customer challenges , rather than simply selling products.
Curiosity and openness beyond traditional engines, with interest in integrated solutions such as electrification, services, connectivity‑enabled offerings, as well as diesel engines.
Comfortable working across multiple brands and organisational boundaries , including Caterpillar and Perkins.
Relationship Management: Actively builds, strengthens, and sustains trusted relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, influencing collaboration and negotiating win‑win outcomes.
- Experience in business development, sales, or commercial roles , with exposure to global or multi‑region working environments.
Decision‑making and Critical Thinking: Organises information, evaluates alternatives, and supports sound recommendations in complex commercial environments.
Effective Communication: Communicates clearly and effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders, adapting style and content as required.

As a Business Development Manager, you will play a key role in connecting customer needs with enterprise capabilities , helping the organisation succeed through insight, collaboration, and customer‑centric thinking.
Additional Information
This role has up to 25% travel
When not travelling, this office is based from the office in Peterborough 5 days a week.
