CITY OF PERRY Utility Mechanic I (Gas) in PERRY, Florida

Nature of Work:

This position requires skilled work in the installation and maintenance of natural gas lines and gas appliances. Employee is responsible for assigned tasks involving the application of standard trade procedures to the maintenance and installation of gas lines and appliances. Work orders are both oral and written. Work is done independently and under supervision of the Superintendent. Work is reviewed in progress and upon completion. Employee is required to perform periodic standby for emergency calls and service after regular hours and holidays.

Examples of work:

Participates in all aspects of construction, installation, maintenance and repair of natural gas lines. Troubleshoots and performs minor adjustments and repairs on gas burning appliances, including venting. Installs and inspects new appliances. Installs and turns on meters. Tests gas lines for leaks, tests appliances, and reads meters. Operates ditching machine, air drill and other light equipment. Performs other job related duties as required.

Training and Experience

Graduation from high school with a standard diploma or GED. Minimum of one year experience in installation and repair of gas appliances and maintaining gas lines or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge skills and abilities.
