Boys & Girls Club of North Central Florida Early Head Start Program Teacher in Perry, Florida

Position Summary: Provide developmentally and linguistically appropriate instruction, recognizing children have individual rates of development as well as individual interest, temperaments, languages, cultural backgrounds and learning styles. Plan lessons in advance and implement curriculum with fidelity to ensure optimal child outcomes and to align to the HSPS. Work towards school readiness goals and track progress. Use home visits to gain knowledge and awareness of the child and to work with the parents as partners in their childs education. Maintains all required program documentation, including an ongoing assessment portfolio of each child. Provides individualized instruction and support to each child. Develop a positive relationship with each child and promote the development of self-esteem and self-discipline. Ensures child safety and maintain a clean learning environment. Supervise children at all times.

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

Perform the functions of this position with a strong understanding of the Head Start Performance Standards and the component plans; and thorough knowledge and application of NAEYC Developmentally Appropriate Practices.

Attends and participates in all required meetings, activities, pre-service and in-service training that includes but is not limited to 15 hours of classroom focused professional development and methods that comply with applicable State and local laws for identifying and reporting child abuse and neglect.

Must maintain active supervision of children in your care.

Must follow the classroom schedule.

Follows curriculum with fidelity, prepare lesson plans, which includes objectives to be posted for parents, volunteers and visitors in the classroom, one week in advance.

Sets up the physical environment to meet the changing needs of infants and toddlers

Maintain a comprehensive and ongoing portfolio assessment for each child, including weekly observations in each area, examples of the child's work, and a developmental assessment.

Maintain necessary documentation on classroom and child observations, attendance records and other paperwork as assigned.

Prepare and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment for children that is positive, developmentally appropriate and experientially-based.

Provide sufficient and appropriate outdoor time daily for children.

Displays and develops material and provides activities related to cultures of the community in order to increase the children's respect and understanding of their own and other local cultures.

Model and promote communication and problem-solving skills that assist in developing positive interactions, creating an atmosphere of acceptance, support and encouragement, which fosters the development of positive self-concept and self-esteem in children as well as attachment, bonding, and trusting relationships.

Demonstrate an understanding of infant-toddler development and applying this knowledge in practice.

Assists with the recruitment of eligible Head Start children and families.

Maintain and uphold confidentiality of children, parents and staff.

Identifies and reports any suspected child abuse/neglect cases, notifying the Program Manager, who then notifies the Executive Director.
