The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is seeking skilled Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanics to support the Washington County Maintenance Organization. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position serves as a licensed and highly trained automotive and heavy equipment mechanic responsible for performing a wide range of analytical, preventive maintenance, and repair tasks. The role supports a diverse fleet that includes construction equipment, trucks, automobiles, and various hand tools, all powered by gasoline or diesel engines. The mechanic ensures equipment reliability and safety by diagnosing issues, conducting thorough inspections, and completing high-quality repairs that keep the fleet operating at peak performance.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment

  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) ;or

  • Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment ;or

  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

    Special Requirements:

  • You must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) and it requires the Class B to have the Manual Transmission (E) removed or equivalent.

  • This position requires an active Pennsylvania Class 1, Class 4, or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.

    Additional Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations.

  • This position requires operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission.

  • Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.

  • This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.

  • Employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders within the probationary period.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
