Associate Engineer - Computational - Maritime Systems (REQ 318)
Applied Physical Sciences (APS) is seeking a highly motivated Engineer to contribute to the success of our Maritime Systems Division. Ideal candidates will have a B.S. in mathematics, data science, computer science or statistics with an existing security clearance and 0-5 years of experience.
Successful applicants will support the computational analysis of a cutting-edge acoustic system through development and production. In this role, a successful candidate will engage in the development and management of an oceanographic database. Additionally, this role will contribute to the analysis of large oceanographic data sets to inform important design decisions and improve overall system performance by employing statistical and mathematical principles. Job Functions and Responsibilities
Support development and management of ocean-acoustic databases
Support software engineering and data analysis
Support computational analysis for a number of ongoing and future programs pertaining to areas of innovative maritime systems.
Use relevant database software to effectively organize and produce technically accurate reports.
Analyze acoustic data sets to derive qualitative and quantitative technical measurements from recorded acoustic data
Attend and participate in data reviews and analyst exchanges as required
Collect, maintain and verify data in accordance with plans developed by others, including data from diverse sources
Apply standard research methodologies to gather, process, and analyze data
Required Skills and Attributes
Possess strong analytic and quantitative problem-solving skills
Possess a demonstrated ability to deliver work on a timeline
Possess a demonstrated ability to work both independently and in teams
Extreme organization and attention to detail with an ability to proactively organize and manage tasks
A solid foundation in MATLAB and SQL
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
Excellent communication and interaction skills with project managers, IPT leads, and customers.
Able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense Secret Security Clearance
Preferred Skills and Attributes
Strong understanding of the defense industry, particularly undersea or maritime technology
Experience in one or more of the following: C++ or Python
Active security clearance
