Position Summary

The Manager of Food and Nutrition Services is responsible for directing the overall operation of the Nutrition Services Department at Bronson LakeView Hospital. This includes patient meal services, cafeteria operations, vending, catering, and both inpatient and outpatient nutrition programs. This role ensures compliance with all Joint Commission, state, and federal regulations and serves as the hospital liaison to the BLH Auxiliary.


Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Operations

  • Direct and oversee all food and nutrition service operations, including patient meal service, cafeteria, catering, vending, diet office, and auxiliary services
  • Establish and maintain quality standards across all areas of responsibility
  • Develop and implement short- and long-term departmental plans with COO approval
  • Monitor, evaluate, and report on department performance and goals
  • Support Lean initiatives through manager rounding and participation in daily DCI

Staff and Volunteer Management

  • Interview, hire, develop, evaluate, and discipline department staff
  • Assist with recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and evaluating BLH Auxiliary volunteers
  • Ensure volunteers meet annual service requirements
  • Provide coverage for Dietitian services when needed

Financial and Administrative Oversight

  • Develop, administer, and monitor departmental and auxiliary budgets
  • Review financial performance and report to the COO
  • Manage food service vendors and invoicing
  • Maintain the hospital petty cash fund and provide change support to departments
  • Ensure departmental databases and systems remain current, including Point of Sale and room service platforms

Collaboration and Compliance

  • Develop and maintain departmental policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with nursing and other departments on shared policies
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards
  • Coordinate employee appreciation events and auxiliary activities, including gift shop support

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Food and Nutrition
  • 5 to 7 years of clinical nutrition and food service management experience
  • Registered Dietitian, in good standing and licensed in the state of Michigan
  • Completion of accredited internship and required continuing education (75 credits every 5 years)
  • ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification (required as of June 2019)
