Position Overview:

We are looking for a talented and ambitious Data Engineering Intern to join our team. This individual will have the opportunity to expand and enhance our big data platform to deliver clean, structured data to both our internal and external customers. As we expand our capabilities in the areas of data mining, machine learning, and big data analysis, this position will be key to help deliver value to our end users. They will also have the unique opportunity to create new data products from our data lakes while working to enhance the cluster's stability and flexibility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deploy scalable data pipelines using MapReduce and Spark.

  • Build software solutions in Java, Scala, or languages

  • Enhance existing data frameworks in the data lake to accommodate projected growth and evolving business objectives

  • Oversee data lake scaling, including space allocation, job optimization, and data partitioning strategies

  • Expand the functionality of reporting and analytics platforms to deliver actionable business insights for internal and external stakeholders

  • Uphold data integrity by improving mechanisms to detect and remove content from malicious sources, such as bots, scrapers, and penetration testers

  • Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies to enable rapid scaling and introduce new capabilities

Requirements :

  • Actively enrolled as a university student pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field

  • Comfortable working in a hybrid environment in our Pasadena, CA office.

  • Experience with:

  • Java or Scala, particularly in handling unstructured or semi-structured data

  • Data analysis and translating complex technical data into actionable insights

  • Hadoop and Spark ecosystems

  • Comfortable with Unix shell scripting or other scripting languages

  • Familiarity with web analytics and tracking tools

  • Proficiency in working with open-source tools, coupled with strong self-learning skills to adapt them with minimal guidance

  • Solid understanding of software development best practices and version control systems (e.g., Git)

The hourly range for this position is $18.00 to $50.00. Siemens offers a variety of health and wellness benefits to employees. The actual compensation offered is based on the successful candidate’s work location, as well as degree type and relevant education.
