California Institute of Technology Network Engineer II in Pasadena, California
Responsibilities:
- Develop complex network engineering plans and partners with other network engineers to develop networks for security customers.
- Implement network engineering plans, networks for customers and network management tools
- Perform needs assessments for complex network segments.
- Partner with other network engineers to create cost/benefit estimates, presentations, negotiations, installation, problem resolution, and multi-vendor product integration.
- Provide engineering assistance in all customer interaction situations, including receipt of specifications, design, test, and response to service requests.
- Define systems requirements and resolve complex problems.
- Provide initial implementation assessment and recommendation of networks to assure proper execution.
- Apply network tools and perform complex analysis of various network technologies and network research
- Debug complex network problems and perform related tests.
- Resolve complex system failures or degradations.
- Apply broad knowledge in the field to create documentation
- Evaluate the efficiency of the network and systems operations and make recommendations involving equipment and software efficiency and the need for replacement.
- Provide problem and incident investigation and recommend resolution for complex problems.
- Recommend modifications or expansion to the network and systems running on the networks
- Monitor performance of network equipment and applications. Make recommendations for improvements.
- Monitor network health to ensure that operations are in accordance with established NASA policies and procedures with maintaining established levels of service. Make recommendations for improvements.
- Perform complex and varied job functions and activities within discipline.
Qualifications:
Extensive understanding and wide application of principles, theories, concepts and techniques in a relevant field of knowledge.
Extensive knowledge of applicable industry and/or academic practices and standards.
