Position Summary
The current vacancies are in the Parks & Recreation Department.
This position will assist maintenance and operations staff and/or other building staff located at Parks and Recreation facilities by cleaning buildings, removing trash, raking, shoveling, mowing, trimming, and perform related duties as assigned. This position will serve Ramsey County Parks and Tamarack Nature Center. This position provides an opportunity to work outdoors during the summer doing a variety of tasks. Park maintenance works with full-time staff to maintain the county’s parks, trails and facilities.
Estimated hours:
Weekdays, 6:30 a.m.–3 p.m.
Weekends, 5 a.m.–1 p.m.
Full-time hours available.
Two shifts
Tuesday through Saturday
Sunday through Thursday.
Weekdays are 6:30 a.m.–3 p.m. and weekends are 5 a.m.–1 p.m.
There are two shifts but there is some flexibility.

Examples of Work Performed
Sweep, mop, scrub, and vacuum floors in parks and recreation facilities
Cut and trim grass using hand operated equipment and power mowers.
Shrub and flower bed maintenance: weeding, pruning, watering, mulching, and fertilizing
Dispose of trash and trims trees.
Assist in minor building and service equipment repairs.
Shovel and blow snow.
Complete paint touch-up on signs, equipment, and buildings.
Lay sod and repair turf damage.
Miscellaneous tasks related to maintenance and development of park and recreation areas.
Other duties as assigned.
(The work assigned to a position in this classification may not include all possible tasks in this description and does not limit the assignment of any additional tasks in this classification. Regular attendance according to the position’s management approved work schedule is required.)
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Winter Months Assignment - 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Sufficient to perform the duties.
Experience: None.
Other: Must be 16 years of age.
Exam/Screening Process Information
This is an unclassified, at-will temporary position. This position requires an open screening and selection process. There is no exam for this unclassified, at-will, temporary position. All applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be forwarded to the department for consideration. Employment isn't guaranteed beyond the end of this assignment.
Definition of Unclassified from the Ramsey County Personnel Act:
Subdivision 1. General. "The appointing authority may discharge employees in the unclassified service with or without cause. Employees in the unclassified service have no right to a grievance appeal from discharge or other disciplinary action under sections 383A.281 to 383A.301. An employee in an unclassified position shall not have tenure but shall be entitled to all benefits associated with tenure such as vacation leave, sick leave, health insurance, and other benefits as determined by the county board."
