Job Duties
Gives comprehensive patient care.
Initiates and follows through with patient and family teaching.
Identifies and documents initial observation and assessment of the patient's needs for immediate nursing action.
Systematically and accurately assesses nursing needs of the patient in order to detect pertinent changes in the clinical picture.
Selects, plans, evaluates, and documents care based on this assessment.
Assesses, intervenes, and documents appropriately to meet patient's educational, psychosocial, and discharge planning needs.
Initiates appropriate referrals to other departments, services, and/or outside agencies for patient care.
Consults with unit Nursing Leadership regarding significant changes in patient's condition.
Communicates relevant patient care information on shift-to-shift report.
Utilizes patient care standards in clinical practice.
Collaborates with all members of the health care team.
Documents pertinent information regarding patient's response to treatment and progression toward discharge goals in patient's chart.
Completes Admission, Discharge, and Groups in electronic medical record.
Seeks clarification of physician's orders that are unclear or inappropriate.
Interprets clinical data and notifies the physician promptly if immediate changes in management are indicated.
Participates in interdisciplinary patient care rounds by presenting findings on patients as it relates to admission/discharge, and groups on disease specific topics
Applies principles of infection control and safety.
Understands and adheres to the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct.

OTHER JOB DUTIESOrients patient's family to new environment; develops rapport with patient's family.Assists in data collection and analysis of Quality Assurance/CQI monitors; participates inimplementation of follow up action.Effectively utilizes the hospital computer system as it pertains to job responsibilities and in accordancewith hospital policy.Assists other personnel as needed.Keeps up to date with current trends pertinent to area of assignment.Participates in continuing education activities; attends mandatory scheduled in-service programs; sharesinformation gained at conferences with colleagues.Responds to hospital codes (Code 9, Code Blue, Nurse Control, etc., as assigned)Attends monthly unit meetings.
Performs other duties as assigned to support the overall objectives of the department and organization.
Position Qualifications:Current NJ licensure as RN.BLS, ACLS, PALS, IV certification required.
Good interpersonal skills.Speaks, reads and writes English to the extent required by the position.
a. Experienced ED nurses
i. BSN preferred – must have at least 2 years of recent (less than 5 years) ED experience.ii. Must have ACLS, PALS and Triage course upon hire.iii. ENA certification preferred
b. Inexperienced ED including in-house transfers and new grads
i. BSN is required or in progress (submit a letter showing matriculation status from the academic institution) with a completion date of 3 years from Date of hire.ii. ACLS and PALS required upon hire unless they are accepted into the Nurse Residency Program
EDUCATION
A minimum of three (3) years of experience in the specialty/department/unit is required.
JOB SETTING/PHYSICAL DEMANDSEmergency Department settingFrequently prolonged standing/walking.Lifts, positions, pushes, and/or transfers patients.Protective clothing worn: face shield, gloves, impermeable gown.
Salary commensurate with experience within posted range:
$60.1298 weekday /$65.1188 eve & night/ $73.7143 Weekend& Holiday/ $4.00 Critical Care Differential for first 365 days. If employee gets certification it will go up to $8.00 after 1yr. If not, they lose the initial $4.00 after 1 year.
