Special Education Teacher – $58/hr – Palatine, IL – 3-Month Assignment

Position Overview:

The Special Education Teacher provides services to students in grades K–12 under the direction of the Special Education Program Administrator. This educator supports individualized instruction, delivers specialized programming, provides behavioral and academic support, and collaborates with staff to help students achieve their goals.

Assignment Details:

Location: Palatine, IL

Start Date: March 9, 2026

Duration: 3 months

Schedule: Monday–Friday

Hours: 32.5 hours per week

Pay Rate: $58/hour (local)

Modality: In-person

Openings: 2 positions

Details of Assignment:

  • Self-contained classrooms with 6–8 students

  • Mix of moderate-needs autism/behavioral classrooms and intensive therapeutic classrooms

  • Some classrooms capped at 4 students with 1:1 para support

  • Students present autism, behavioral needs, intellectual disabilities, and high-support needs

  • Staff must be comfortable with de-escalation and structured behavior supports

  • At least 2 years of autism/ID/DD experience required

  • Strong leadership skills needed for managing paras and classroom structure

  • Experience in therapeutic day school settings highly preferred

  • In-person interview with classroom shadowing required

Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialized instruction in a self-contained SPED setting

  • Support academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs

  • Lead paraeducators and maintain a structured classroom environment

  • Implement individualized instructional plans and behavior supports

  • Maintain documentation and uphold required professional standards

Requirements:

  • Valid state teaching certificate with LBS1 preferred

  • Minimum 2 years of experience with autism and/or significant developmental delays

  • Strong classroom management and de-escalation skills

  • CPR, TB screening, and health clearance if required

  • Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old
