[POSITION SUMMARY]{georgia",="" serif"=""}
Operating Engineer operates and supervises mechanical equipment including boilers, turbines, generators, compressors, and related plant systems that provide utilities such as light, heat, and power for city buildings. This position requires strong technical knowledge, the ability to respond to emergencies, and the ability to supervise staff on assigned shifts. Work is performed under general supervision with discretion and initiative required during emergency situations.

[Supervise subordinate operators and employees on each shift in the operation of boilers, generators, pumps, motors, compressors, water softening, and other plant equipment]{georgia",="" serif"=""}
[Monitor control boards and regulate manual or automatic controls to maintain proper operating conditions]{georgia",="" serif"=""}
[Read meters, gauges, and recording devices at scheduled intervals to verify performance]{georgia",="" serif"=""}
[Visually inspect equipment to detect malfunctions or maintenance needs and take corrective action]{georgia",="" serif"=""}
[Record operational and maintenance activities in operators' logs]{georgia",="" serif"=""}
[Respond to telephone calls regarding complaints or system issues]{georgia",="" serif"=""}
