Job Description Summary
The Associate Director for Student Transitions and Family Engagement plays a central role in advancing the mission of the Office of Student Transitions and Family Engagement. The Associate Director reports to the Director of Student Transitions and Family Engagement and operates within the Division of Student Life. The Associate Director leads operational coordination for orientation and transition programs and support for family engagement initiatives.
Job Description
Duties and responsibilities:
Design, provide direction for, and implement orientation programs (summer, August, January) for more than 4,000 first-year students, 300 transfer students, and more than 5,000 family members.
Partner with the Director and lead the Assistant Directors in planning and executing office-wide programs such as orientation, Welcome Weekend, First 50 Days, and Family Weekend.
Foster campus partnerships and lead orientation planning groups with key university partners.
Coordinate all aspects of orientation programs including staffing, program development, logistics, and implementation.
Provide primary supervision, leadership, and professional development for Orientation Student Coordinators and Student Orientation Undergraduate Leaders (SOULs).
Design, implement, assess, and evaluate training and development programs for Orientation Student Coordinators and Student Orientation Undergraduate Leaders (SOULs).
Manage print, electronic, and social media communications including email, newsletters, social media, promotional materials, and printed resources for new students and family members.
Teach section(s) of the one-credit University 101 courses for new first-year and/or transfer students to support student transition and engagement.
Assist with developing and conducting office assessments and analyzing assessment data.
Assist with course implementation, enrollment, and instructor support for first-year experience courses (e.g. UNV 101).
Provide direction and support for transition initiatives, including Welcome Weekend, First 50 Days programs, and Miami Bound pre-semester programs.
As needed/required, supervise graduate, temporary, or practicum staff members.
Represent the office on divisional and institutional committees and contribute to professional association engagement.
Represent the office in the absence of the Director.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree, completed by the start date.
3 years of post-undergraduate, professional experience in higher education, with a focus on student affairs or a related field.
Experience with programs for new college students.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in higher education administration, student affairs, or a related field, completed by the start date.
