Job Description Summary
The Assistant Director for Family Engagement develops and manages initiatives, programs, events, and communication strategies that strengthen relationships between Miami University and families of Miami students. This position ensures that families are informed, supported, and engaged partners in their students' success. The Assistant Director for Family Engagement reports to the Director of Student Transitions and Family Engagement within the Division of Student Life.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as the initial point of contact for Miami parents and family members through phone, email, and social media communications.
Assist with orientation programs (summer, August, January) for more than 4,000 first-year students, 300 transfer students, and more than 5,000 family members with a specific focus on the family orientation experience.
Seek innovative and creative programming strategies (both active and passive) to engage family members in the Miami community, including during student and family transitions to the college environment.
Foster partnerships with campus entities to support family members.
Support the creation and maintenance of print, electronic, and social media communications including email, newsletters (CampusESP), family calendar, social media, promotional materials, video/webinar series, and printed resources for family members of Miami students.
Coordinate referrals to manage and address questions and concerns from family members.
Teach section(s) of the one-credit University 101 courses for new first-year and/or transfer students to support student transition and engagement.
Additional Duties The Office of Student Transitions and Family Engagement operates with an integrated, collaborative model in which all Assistant Directors are cross-trained and actively support one another's areas of focus. While each Assistant Director holds primary responsibility for a specific functional need (orientation, transition, family engagement), all contribute to the overall office mission, major office initiatives, and events.
All assistant directors contribute to:
Creating individualized academic advising schedules for new students attending orientation.
Assisting with the planning and execution of summer, August, and January orientation programs including check-in, session facilitation, logistics, and family programming.
Supporting orientation registration, communications, and presentation content.
Participating in orientation planning committees and campus partner meetings.
Providing day-of staffing for office-led events, including all orientation, Welcome Weekend, and Family Weekend programming. During large-scale programming, an evening rotation will be in place.
