Job Title: CNC Machinist

Job Description

This role involves setting up and operating CNC Haas mill and lathe machines to produce high-quality parts in a fast-paced, team-oriented manufacturing environment. You will perform multiple daily setups, monitor machining operations, and carry out precise quality inspections using standard measurement tools to ensure parts meet specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC Haas mill and lathe machines to produce parts according to specifications and production schedules.

  • Perform an average of 4–5 machine setups per day, including tool changes, offsets, and changeovers between different jobs.

  • Read and interpret blueprints to determine machining operations, dimensions, and tolerances.

  • Adjust tools, offsets, and machine parameters to maintain part quality and meet dimensional requirements.

  • Use micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring instruments to perform in-process and final quality inspections.

  • Troubleshoot machining issues, identify root causes, and make appropriate adjustments to improve part quality and machine performance.

  • Operate related shop equipment such as drill presses and other mechanical machines as needed.

  • Maintain an organized and clean work area in accordance with shop standards and safety guidelines.

  • Collaborate closely with the lead machinist and production leadership to prioritize work, resolve technical issues, and meet production goals.

  • Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of required personal protective equipment.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2 years of experience running CNC mills or CNC lathes, or a recent 2-year technical degree in machining.

  • Minimum of 1 year of blueprint reading experience.

  • Hands-on experience setting up and operating CNC Haas mills and/or lathes.

  • Proficiency in performing tool changes, setting offsets, and managing changeovers between jobs.

  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints and understand tolerances and machining symbols.

  • Skill in using micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring tools for quality inspection.

  • Mechanical aptitude and understanding of basic machine operation and machining processes.

  • Troubleshooting skills to identify and correct machining and quality issues.

  • Ability to work effectively in a production environment and meet daily setup and throughput expectations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Manual machining experience is a strong plus.

  • Experience operating drill presses and other shop equipment.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality parts.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a lead machinist and production leadership in a team-oriented setting.

  • Good communication skills to discuss job requirements, issues, and improvements with team members.

Work Environment

The role is based in an organized and relatively clean manufacturing shop that is separated into distinct departments to streamline workflow. You will work closely with a lead machinist and production leadership in a collaborative, team-focused environment. The position involves hands-on work with CNC Haas mills and lathes, as well as other mechanical equipment such as drill presses. Safety is a priority, and steel-toe boots and safety glasses are required at all times on the shop floor.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Owatonna, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $28.00/hr.
