Steele County Assistant County Attorney I/II/Sr. in Owatonna, Minnesota
Job Duties
Under the direction of the Chief Deputy Attorney or County Attorney, the Assistant County Attorney I, II or Senior Attorney will be responsible for primarily handling child protection, child support, data practices, tax court appeals, forfeitures, and assisting in providing legal advice to county departments and committees. There is flexibility in assigned caseload.
All attorneys also provide a ‘backup’ to another caseload type for vacation coverage. Those areas include adult felony, the Owatonna City Prosecutor, juvenile delinquency, adult protection, child protection, truancy, maltreatment appeals, ERPOs, daily in-custody coverage, and forfeitures.
All positions include remote work options for several days per week. Our staff who commute have found value with our generous flex-time work policy.
Upcoming July bar takers are encouraged to apply! A flexible schedule is available until the bar exam and successful passing. Those eligible to be Supervised Practitioners qualify for full-time pay and benefits. The Board of Law Examiner rules allow Supervised Practitioners to be certified for 24 months from the date of degree conferral.

Minimum Education Required
• JD Degree from accredited law school
Minimum Experience Required
• No previous experience required; previous litigation experience is preferred
• MN Drivers License
• Licensed to practice law in Minnesota, or pending licensure
• Ability to pass a standard background check

Cost of living adjustment and pay increases per union contract.
