Job Title: General Laborer

Job Description

The General Laborer maintains a clean, safe, and debris‑free environment across transfer decks, mezzanines, and automation zones that include conveyors, lifts, shuttles, palletizing cells, and scanners and sensors. This role supports equipment uptime and safety by removing debris, cleaning floors and machinery according to established sanitation standard operating procedures, and coordinating with maintenance and operations teams to perform cleaning during automation downtime.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and debris‑free environment on transfer decks, mezzanines, and within automation zones, including conveyors, lifts, shuttles, palletizing cells, and scanners and sensors.

  • Clean around and under machinery and automation equipment, following all sanitation SOPs and site standards.

  • Use industrial cleaning tools such as floor scrubbers and vacuums to clean floors, equipment, and hard‑to‑reach areas.

  • Work closely with maintenance and operations teams to schedule and perform cleaning during automation downtime to minimize impact on production.

  • Spend approximately 30% of the time on rollers in a chest‑down position cleaning confined spaces and checking automation tracking tape.

  • Spend approximately 70% of the time walking inside automation stations to pick up spillage and debris and wipe down automation equipment.

  • Follow Lock Out Tag Out procedures and other safety protocols when working around or under machinery and automation.

  • Report hazards clearly and promptly, and communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding safety concerns and cleaning needs.

  • Use hand tools and industrial equipment safely and correctly while performing cleaning and basic labor tasks.

  • Operate material handling equipment, such as an electric pallet jack, as needed to move materials or access cleaning areas.

  • Document work activities as required, including using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) when applicable.

  • Support overall warehouse cleanliness and organization by removing trash, debris, and obstructions from work areas.

Essential Skills

  • Experience performing general labor in an industrial, warehouse, or construction environment.

  • Hands‑on experience with industrial cleaning in and around machinery and automation equipment.

  • Knowledge of and ability to follow Lock Out Tag Out procedures when working around powered equipment.

  • Ability to follow detailed sanitation standard operating procedures and site cleanliness standards.

  • Proficiency using industrial cleaning tools such as scrubbers and vacuums.

  • Clear verbal communication skills and the ability to report hazards accurately and promptly.

  • Commitment to working safely during automation downtime and around moving equipment.

  • Mechanical aptitude to understand basic equipment function and cleaning requirements.

  • Ability to use an electric pallet jack safely.

  • Ability to use common hand tools for cleaning and basic labor tasks.

  • Physical ability to work chest‑down on rollers in confined spaces for extended periods.

  • Physical ability to walk continuously inside automation stations, climb stairs frequently, and work on mezzanines and transfer decks.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working in an automation‑driven warehouse or production environment.

  • Familiarity with a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for documenting work.

  • Experience in construction or similar physically demanding roles.

  • Comfort working in variable temperature zones, including cooler and warmer areas.

  • Strong attention to detail when inspecting and cleaning automation tracking tape and components.

  • Reliability and consistency in following safety, cleanliness, and operational procedures.

Work Environment

The role is based in a warehouse environment with conditions that vary by zone and may include both cooler and warm areas. Team members frequently climb stairs and walk continuously on transfer decks and mezzanines while moving between automation stations. Work takes place in and around automated systems, including conveyors, lifts, shuttles, palletizing cells, and scanners and sensors. The position involves significant physical activity, including spending about half the time on rollers in a chest‑down position to clean confined spaces and inspect automation tracking tape, and the other half walking inside automation stations to pick up spillage, remove debris, and wipe down equipment. Industrial cleaning tools such as scrubbers, vacuums, hand tools, and electric pallet jacks are used regularly, and work is often scheduled during automation downtime to support safety and equipment uptime. Shifts are available on a multi‑day schedule that includes evening and overnight hours.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ottawa, KS.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00/hr.
