Senior Electrical Engineer - Power Generation

Job Description:

This position involves leading and designing the electrical power distribution and signal network for Gas Turbine projects. The primary focus is on low-voltage systems (600V and below), including equipment such as MCCs, LV Transformers, DC Systems, and Batteries.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop single-line diagrams, panelboard schedules, electrical load lists, motor lists, wiring diagrams, control schematics, cable schedules, and termination schedules.

  • Create power system plans, lighting plans, electrical room layouts, elevation drawings, conduit/cable tray arrangements, and hazardous area classifications.

  • Perform equipment sizing calculations, illumination level calculations, and maintain BOMs.

  • Develop and review electrical, control, and instrumentation wiring diagrams and cable lists using SmartPlant Electrical or SmartPlant Instrumentation.

  • Prepare purchase specifications for electrical equipment and select vendors for constructing electrical packages.

  • Generate electrical drawing packages to document logic, point-to-point wiring, and system interaction.

  • Interpret and design according to code requirements from relevant authorities and applicable electrical codes.

  • Regularly meet with vendors to ensure all technical and schedule requirements are met.

  • Interpret and integrate design requirements from the parent company.

  • Respond to technical inquiries from customers, vendors, and field personnel.

  • Utilize SmartPlant Electrical, SmartPlant Instrumentation, and SmartPlant 3D for designing electrical power and control systems.

  • Possess working knowledge of electrical and instrumentation design for industrial facilities.

  • Preferred experience with Generators for Gas or Steam Turbines is a plus.

  • Comply with all safety policies and report unsafe activities.

  • Participate in team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.

  • Communicate effectively with all levels of employees.

  • Handle various assignments in a timely manner to meet scheduled deadlines.

  • Ensure quality by following standard work instructions and identifying potential risks.

  • Develop schedules and manage project designs with minimal supervision.

  • Simplify product designs for improved manufacturability and cost reduction.

  • Assist Sales, Marketing, and Development Engineering with projects to enhance products.

  • Meet schedule requirements for project engineering deliverables.

  • Provide technical support during the manufacturing and commissioning of equipment.

  • Lead junior engineers and interns, supporting their development.

  • Travel up to 10%.

Essential Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.

  • Minimum 12 years of technical experience in industrial facility power distribution design.

  • Experience in sizing and selecting equipment such as MCCs, Switchgear, and Transformers.

  • Strong familiarity with the National Electric Code NFPA 70.

  • Experience with SmartPlant Electrical, SmartPlant Instrumentation, SmartPlant 3D, and AutoCAD.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with electrical codes and industry standards such as NEMA, IEC, IEEE, ISA, ANSI, NFPA 70E, UL, CSA, and TUV.

  • Experience with lighting calculation software like DIALux or Visual.

  • Inclination towards computer programming languages is encouraged.

  • Experience with Revit 3D or comparable 3D electrical design tools is considered.

Work Environment:

The position is located in Lake Mary, FL, with a hybrid schedule of 3 days in the office and 2 days remote. Benefits include 17 days of PTO, 11 paid holidays, unlimited sick time, health plans (HSA, EPO, PPO), dental, vision, life insurance, and other optional benefits.

This is a Permanent position based out of Orlando, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $130000.00 - $145000.00/yr.

Once Direct. 17 days PTO, 11 paid holidays, and unlimited sick time. 100% match of the first 6%. Three health plans: HSA, EPO, and PPO. Dental, vision, and life insurance are also offered, along with many other optional benefits.
