Job Description:
Responsible for assisting the pharmacist in preparing and dispensing medications to ensure patient care aligns with the pharmacy's philosophy, goals, policies, and procedures. This position performs all necessary duties and tasks for the effective daily operations of department services and programs. Additionally, this role handles a high volume of work with minimal direct supervision and performs all job functions. In addition, this position actively participates in outstanding customer service and maintains respectful relationships with all individuals. Additionally, this role requires the ability to perform all duties listed for Pharmacy Technician II, III, and IV.
• Acts as a resource to pharmacy, risk management, quality, and performance improvement departments.
• Leads the review and evaluation of medication safety practices and recommends process improvements.
• Manages and implements medication safety initiatives, ensuring compliance with regulations and policies.
• Oversees adverse drug event reporting activities and evaluates significant medication variances.
• Assesses and reports the status of medication-use safety efforts to campus leaders and staff.
• Develops strategies to minimize medication errors related to labeling, packaging, storage, and administration.
• Provides oversight to ensure all patient and medication-specific information supports effective care decisions.
• Precepts pharmacy residents and students, enhancing their professional growth and development.
• Participates in educational programs, current literature, and research to stay updated on medication safety.
• Supervises Medication Safety Pharmacists and oversees data analysts and pharmacy residents.
• Ensures healthcare providers and staff are proficient in safe medication use practices through training and assessments.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Competent in medical terminology, medication names and medication use [Required]
• Proficient with prescription-filling software and other computer skills [Required]
• Ability to work under pressure [Required]
• Ability to interact professionally with public and other medical staff [Required]
• Knowledge of compounding oral/topical medications [Required]
• Knowledgeable in all the major prescription insurance carrier reimbursement guidelines and eligibility for coverage by third-party payers [Required]
• Knowledge of Federal and State laws governing the practice of pharmacy and delegation of responsibilities including which tasks may only be performed by a licensed Pharmacist [Required]
• Moderate proficiency in MS Office: Word, Excel, and Outlook [Required]
• Ability to teach pharmacy technicians [Preferred]
Education:
• Associate's [Preferred]
• High School Grad or Equiv [Required]
Field of Study:
• in physical science, business or healthcare related field
Work Experience:
• 3+ years pharmacy technician experience, in a retail pharmacy, mail-order pharmacy, central fill or hospital setting [Required]
• 5+ years retail pharmacy experience [Preferred]
• Previous experience in a managed healthcare organization, medical insurance company, pharmacy benefit management or other healthcare related entity. [Preferred]
• Prior experience processing and filling prescriptions [Preferred]
Licenses and Certifications:
• Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPhT) [Required]
• NHA Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) [Required] OR PTCB Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) [Required]

Pay Range:
$20.38 - $32.60
