Position Announcement
This supervisory role within Utah Valley University Dining Services offers the opportunity to lead and support an essential operation that directly contributes to a safe, welcoming, and high-quality campus experience. The position plays a key role in mentoring and supervising hourly student custodians, providing hands-on training in proper floor care, cleaning techniques, and safety procedures. By developing student employees and ensuring consistent standards, this role helps maintain clean, professional dining environments that serve the broader UVU community.
In addition to daytime operations, this position supports the success of evening events by coordinating with and indirectly supervising catering teams to ensure smooth execution and efficient cleanup. Summary of Responsibilities
• Supervise and train custodial staff on proper cleaning techniques, safety issues and use of all custodial equipment. Enforcing rules, regulations, and policies.
• Maintain inventory and supervise the usage of supplies, chemicals, and equipment. Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
• Assists in hiring qualified employees by participating in the interview process and making recommendations regarding the employment of applicants. Approve electronic time sheets, assumes the duties of absence student custodians in their assigned area.
• Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
• Provides work direction to evening catering student employees. Monitor evening catering events to ensure they function smoothly in a highly professional manor.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree in a related field or a combination of education and/or experience related to the summary of duties totaling 4 years.
Licenses/Certifications:
Food Handler's Permit is required within the first 30 days of employment.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Knowledge
• Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work.
• Knowledge of supervision and training.
• Knowledge of custodial sanitation and sterilization methods and techniques.
• Knowledge of the proper and safe use and storage of cleaning compounds.
• Knowledge of the proper and safe use of ladders.
• Knowledge of safe lifting and moving
techniques.
Skills
• Skills in interpersonal communication, problem-solving, and decision-making.
Abilities
• Ability to train and provide work direction to others.
• Ability to use cleaning materials, equipment and methods according to pre-determined
standards.
