This role offers the opportunity to step into a visible, hands-on leadership position that directly supports the success of campus events and community experiences at Utah Valley University. Working closely with the Catering Associate Director, you'll gain meaningful management experience while helping guide daily operations in a fast-paced, service-driven environment. From coordinating office operations to supporting client needs, this position allows you to make a real impact while developing skills in leadership, organization, and collaborative problem-solving.

Summary of Responsibilities

 

• Supports the Catering Department through appropriate use of phone handling, emails, scheduling of appointments, greeting guests, answering general and specific inquiries, reporting data as needed, and maintaining accurate records, while providing excellent customer service to the internal and external clients.

• Assigns duties and schedules for student employees and coordinates events to ensure staff arrive on time, are dressed in complete uniform, and that the event is set up and served on time. Works collaboratively with fellow employees and managers. Possesses the ability to resolve conflicts respectfully and in a timely manner. Demonstrates and leads with an engaging, positive attitude. Trains Catering Lead employees on their individual responsibilities for daily, weekly, and monthly events and tasks.

• Maintains inventories of catering supplies and equipment. Responsible for inventory control and ordering of equipment, catering supplies, paper, and linen as needed. Travels to off-site catering locations.

• Evaluates and recommends personnel needs and advancements, as well as concerns within the department. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

 

• Graduation from an accredited institution with an associate's degree or any combination of education and/or experience related to the position classification summary totaling a minimum of two years.

• Valid Driver's License.

• Food Handler's Permit.

 

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

 

Knowledge

 

• Knowledge and experience using the catering software Caterease.

• Knowledge and understanding of human relationships.

• Knowledge of health and cleanliness standards for food preparation and presentation.

• Knowledge of catering event staffing needs.

 

Skills

 

• Skills in customer satisfaction with an appreciation of customer expectations and demands.

• Skills in employee development and performance management.

• Skills in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policies, developing, and impl ementing new strategies and procedures.

• Skills in the use of computers, preferably in a PC, Windows-based operating environment.

• Skills in communicating effectively with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.

• Skills in teamwork, with the ability to lead and motivate staff.

• Excellent service skills from s tup to breakdown.
