Overview The Senior Director of Clinical Affairs and Partnerships provide senior-level leadership for clinical education operations, clinical partnerships, and academic-practice integration across Yale School of Nursing and leads Academic Practice Fellowship at Yale New Haven Health System. This role directs and coordinates major functional areas related to clinical education, program development, partnership management, and workforce innovation, ensuring alignment with institutional missions, accreditation requirements, and strategic priorities. The position holds primary responsibility for YSN's clinical education infrastructure and serves as a key liaison to YNHHS for advancing academic practice initiatives that strengthen nursing scholarship, quality improvement, and teaching innovation. The role supports the development of integrated academic-clinical pathways that enhance student learning, professional development of clinical nurses, and system-level impact. Yale School of Nursing Responsibilities: Clinical Education Operations and Infrastructure Directs, monitors, and assesses the clinical education enterprise for all YSN programs, including GEPN, MSN, and DNP pathways, ensuring adequate capacity and consistently high-quality clinical placements. Oversees operational and strategic planning for clinical education functions formerly housed within the Clinical Support Unit, including placement coordination, compliance systems, data integrity, and risk mitigation. Establishes, implements, and continuously refines policies and procedures related to clinical education, clinical placements, and clinical partnerships, ensuring alignment with University standards and applicable state and federal regulations. Supervises contract development, negotiation, execution, and renewal for clinical affiliation agreements in collaboration with the Office of General Counsel and the Business Office. Develops, monitors, and uses performance standards, metrics, and data systems to support accreditation, continuous quality improvement, internal reporting, and external accountability. Clinical Accreditation and Regulatory Compliance Holds enterprise-level responsibility for clinical accreditation compliance across all YSN programs, serving as the central coordinating authority for clinical components of accreditation and regulatory review. Ensures full compliance with accreditation standards related to clinical education, including but not limited to: Clinical placement sufficiency and appropriateness Faculty qualifications and supervision Student clinical learning outcomes and assessment Documentation, reporting, and continuous improvement processes Coordinates preparation for, participation in, and follow-up from accreditation reviews, site visits, and audits related to clinical education. Partners with academic leadership, Faculty Affairs, and institutional offices to ensure timely identification and remediation of clinical compliance risks. Maintains systems for ongoing monitoring of regulatory and accreditation changes affecting clinical education and proactively integrates required updates into policy and practice. Clinical Partnerships and External Engagement Directs and expands partnerships with all Clinical Community Advisory Board (CCAB) member organizations and proactively develops relationships with non-member clinical institutions. Aligns clinical partnerships with YSN academic priorities, student learning objectives, workforce needs, and evolving models of care delivery. Serves as a senior representative of YSN in clinical partner forums, national meetings, and strategic discussions related to nursing education and academic-practice collaboration. Faculty Clinical Services, Practice Innovation, and Clinical Revenue Oversight Facilitates the development, approval, and onboarding of new faculty secondary clinical services agreements, in coordination with Faculty Affairs, academic program leadership, the Office of General Counsel, the Business Office, and clinical partner organizations. Oversees and coordinates existing faculty secondary clinical services agreements, ensuring alignment with YSN academic priorities, clinical education needs, contractual terms, and institutional policies. Leads the strategic development and oversight of innovative faculty-led clinical education and practice models, including: Dedicated Education Units (DEUs) Joint academic-clinical teaching clinics YSN-run or YSN-affiliated clinical services Other emerging academic-practice innovation models Serves as a central point of coordination for faculty clinical practice arrangements, including communication with clinical partners regarding scope, expectations, supervision, and educational integration. Monitors and supports clinical faculty-generated revenue streams associated with secondary clinical services agreements and faculty clinical practice activities, in collaboration with YSN leadership and the Business Office. Ensures that faculty clinical activities, innovation models, and related revenue align with: Yale and YSN policies Accreditation and regulatory requirements Faculty appointment terms, workload expectations, and compensation structures Uses data, financial reporting, and performance metrics to inform leadership regarding trends, opportunities, risks, and sustainability related to faculty clinical engagement, innovation, and revenue generation. This role will also provide an average of ten (10) hours per week, 25% FTE of related services on behalf of YSN to Yale New Haven Health System, under the title Director of Academic Practice Fellowship. Yale New Haven Health System Responsibilities (Director of Academic Practice Fellowship): Academic Practice Fellowship Development Designs and implements an Academic Practice Fellowship program for YNHHS clinical nurses in collaboration with the YNHHS CNE, YSN leadership, and other academic institutions. Establishes selection processes for clinical nurses to lead quality improvement, teaching innovation, and practice-based research initiatives. Coordinates protected time and pilot funding mechanisms to support fellows' scholarly productivity. Facilitates partnerships between YNHHS fellows, YSN faculty, and YSN students to advance joint projects and educational integration. Engages additional academic partnerships to expand the efforts. Supports the dissemination of fellowship outcomes through presentations, publications, and internal system learning structures. Workforce and Practice Innovation Partners with YNHHS nursing leadership to align fellowship and academic initiatives with system priorities for quality, safety, professional development, and retention. Serves as a liaison between academic and clinical environments to accelerate implementation of evidence-based and innovative nursing practices. Required Skills and Abilities 1. Knowledge of, and experience with, nursing education, clinical practice, and licensure requirements. 2. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills with the ability to engage and interact effectively with diverse constituencies, including students, faculty, staff, and external partners. 3. Strong managerial and leadership skills, with proven experience in supervising and motivating teams, managing budgets, and leading complex projects. 4. Superior organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities, with high attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities. 5.Well-developed decision-making, planning, and strategic thinking skills. Preferred Skills and Abilities 1. Advanced degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., MBA, or equivalent) in a relevant field with significant experience in higher education administration or a related area. 2. Knowledge and experience in developing and implementing educational programs, curricula, and initiatives within a university setting. 3. Proven experience managing grant-funded projects and familiarity with federal and institutional regulations. 4. Proficiency with university information systems, financial management systems, and collaboration tools such as Workday, CRM systems, and Microsoft Office. 5. Prior experience in managing both exempt and non-exempt staff and demonstrated success in fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. Principal Responsibilities 1. Directs one or more functional areas within an administrative department of the University and ensure compliance with University policies and procedures. 2. Directs analytic and research support for educational policies and planning and develops and approves administrative policies affecting assigned functional areas of the University. 3. Directs and establishes parameters for major projects for the department and University. 4. Interprets federal policies and regulations and educates staff and administration about regulations, restrictions, and the legal responsibilities of the University. 5. Directs and implements policy and program modifications and develops standards to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations. 6. Develops and administers an operating budget for the assigned department consistent with University policies and procedures. 7. Develops cost savings objectives and goals; authorizes major purchases and negotiates contracts that range from routine to complex in nature. 8. Establishes and implements long- and short-range goals for the functional area consistent with University goals and objectives. 9. Directs the development of related automated systems to support the function; determines office policies and procedures for use of automated systems. 10. Directs the evaluation and selection of vendors and negotiates contract details including work steps and pricing with the vendors on behalf of the assigned functional area. 11. Works with internal and external contacts to solve problems that range from routine to complex in nature. 12. Represents the University in discussions and negotiations with various governmental agencies. 13. Directs a staff of exempt and nonexempt employees. 14. May perform other duties as assigned.
