ODEN Evolve & Resolve | Disability and Inclusion Specialist in Ontario, Canada

Part-Time | $21–$28/hr | Contract

Disability and Inclusion Specialists are para- or professional staff who collaborate with neurodivergent and disabled youth and adults to improve their participation in daily life, education, work, and community settings. They focus on practical strategies, problem-solving, and systems that reduce barriers and promote sustainable independence and inclusion.

Disability and Inclusion Specialists are non‑regulated team members who implement and extend rehabilitation and inclusion plans under the direction of regulated or lead professionals (e.g., VR consultants, registered health professionals), while also contributing their own expertise in daily living, executive functioning, and community participation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work one‑to‑one and in small groups with clients with diverse DSM‑5 diagnoses (e.g., Autism, ADHD, intellectual and learning disabilities, Down syndrome, Prader–Willi syndrome, brain injury and other neurological conditions).

  • Assist clients to develop and practice skills and strategies for daily routines, organization and executive functioning, money management, communication, self‑advocacy, and community participation.

  • Support clients with school and work participation, including educational pathway planning, job readiness, job shadowing, on‑the‑job strategy coaching, and coordination with employers or schools as appropriate.

  • Collaborate with regulated professionals (e.g., OTs, VR consultants, psychologists) to implement rehabilitation and inclusion plans within the specialist’s scope of practice.

  • Provide education to clients, families, and community partners on neurodiversity‑affirming and disability‑inclusive strategies.

  • Maintain clear documentation, communicate progress with the clinical/VR team, and follow all organizational, legal, and ethical standards.

Qualifications

  • College diploma or bachelor’s degree in a related field such as rehabilitation, disability studies, psychology, social work, education, occupational therapy assistant/physiotherapy assistant, developmental services, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience working with neurodivergent and disabled people in community, education, or rehabilitation settings (e.g., brain injury, developmental services, mental health, vocational rehabilitation).

  • Demonstrated knowledge of neurodiversity‑affirming and disability‑inclusive practices and a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

  • Current or preferred certifications: First Aid/CPR, AODA, Non-Crisis Intervention Training, Health & Safety.

Requirements:

  • Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check: Must be provided prior to engagement (current within 3 months)

  • All Ontario related training must be completed prior to engagement(AODA)

  • Professional Liability Insurance (if applicable).

  • Access to reliable transportation for community support

  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of insurance including permission to carry passengers and a minimum of $5 million liability coverage; a clean driver’s abstract is required.
