SUNY Oneonta Residence Hall Director in ONEONTA, New York
Job Description: SUNY Oneonta is seeking a creative, innovative Residence Hall Director to join us in providing a supportive, safe, educational, and engaging residence hall experience for students. Reporting to a member of our leadership team, successful candidates will have a passion for helping students succeed in pursuing their university education. Strong administrative skills, an interest in working in a high-impact unit of Student Affairs, and a work philosophy that recognizes the importance of developing an inclusive community where a sense of belonging is nurtured are essential expectations of staff. As part of this role, the Residence Hall Director fulfills the responsibilities of a 10-month, live-in appointment beginning at the end of July, which includes residing on campus in the residence halls, maintaining a visible presence in the residential community, and supporting students during evening and weekend hours. The flexible schedule also allows for variation in work hours, offering additional personal flexibility. The Office of Campus Housing and Residence Life is under the Residential Experience and Housing Department, which also houses the offices of Move-In, Orientation and Welcome, as well as the Office of Off-Campus and Commuter Students. Our office works closely with many other areas of the University through committee work, collaboration, and resource sharing. We offer special-interest housing in areas such as Wellness, Gaming, Quiet Study, Transfer Living, First-Year Experience, and LGBTQIA+. Duties include but are not limited to: * Living and working in the residence hall. * Supervising, training, and evaluating 8-11 Resident Advisors and additional work-study * front-desk staff. * Managing emergency and crisis situations for the residential community while on duty. * Teaching a section of the Peer Group Communication credit-bearing class. * Creating, developing, and maintaining an inclusive community that is engaging, fosters growth, * and helps students reach their potential. * Enforcing policies and processes within the residential community, including serving as a * hearing officer. * Providing personal support and group advisement to students. * Updating and maintaining collegiate databases. * Managing occupancy within the building community. * Advising a building hall government. * Participating in department committees and task forces. Requirements: Minimum Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree by time of appointment. * Residence life or group living experience. * Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills. * Educational programming or event management experience. Preferred: * Master's degree. * Supervisory experience. * Crisis and emergency management experience. * Experience with community standards hearings (conduct hearings). * Experience with facility management. * Experience with conflict management. * Experience with Maxient and StarRez. * Experience working with and serving diverse populations.
